Re: Topic of the Week - Painting Speed

I took over a ten year break from the hobby after high school. When I came back to those old models a few years ago, I decided to strip off all the paint and actually put some effort into having some decent looking models. In those few years I have completed only one full unit (to a quality I'd say ...

Re: Dnet's Topic of the Week - Your ideal Battalion!

For the special ability, rend would certainly be useful but I see not how it would fit the theme. Hmm. Maybe something to represent their effectiveness at catching enemies unawares or distracted? Abilities For Glory, Not Honour: Corsair Raiders take whatever advantage they can in close combat, and ...

Re: Dnet's Topic of the Week - Your ideal Battalion!

Seems like a relatively easy one to do for AoS would be the corsair slaver/raider theme. It's great fluff-wise, and makes use of some relatively recent models. Not sure if it's ideal for me, necessarily, but I like the models! 1 Black Ark Fleetmaster (could be Lokhir Fellheart, as he has the Black A...

Re: Malekith missing rules?

That's an astute observation.

I guess if magic were a more interesting part of the game and not simply a way to sprinkle in a few mortal wounds here and there, I would be more impressed.

Malekith missing rules?

Anyone else notice this? Malekith's description makes explicit mention of the Circlet of Iron... "He wears the Armour of Midnight, which protects him from mortal harm, and he bears the Circlet of Iron upon his brow" Yet there is no mention of the Circlet of Iron in the Abilities section of...

Re: Handling the Asrai and Trueflight spam

Had a game against Wood Elves yesterday. His shooting consisted of two glade guard units with trueflight, one with hagbane, a unit of waywatchers, and a unit of glade riders. Not sure if 2 units counts as spam, but they were pretty damn effective. I can back up Phierlihy's point about hydras though....

Yeah, the amount of flash on the models alone was a lot of work. I found that once I had all the parts cleaned and separated, the assembly actually went pretty quick. But a lot of initial time spent cleaning them!

I know Dr. Faust videos get posted a lot here, as he has a dark elf series, but he's got a video on painting fire too.

Seems he ascribes to CultofKhaine's philosophy.

Wow! That is indeed striking! I think those are the first executioners with the skull masks I've seen that I actually like the look of! I suppose in echoing TD's comments, the models on which the scheme I think looks best on are the ones where white/gray/black are the dominant colours, with red for ...

Re: Portrayal of women in fantasy

The no women in The Hobbit thing is pretty crazy. I was reminded of it after seeing the movie recently and realizing how many female characters they added. Overall, I can't help but liken this conversation to the more notorious example being brought to popular attention in the video game industry, h...

Re: Converted Druchii Noble.

All very cool. I don't mind the whip in the shield hand - fantasy is fantasy and all. As for the sword... it's not actually the size of the sword that I wonder about, but the size of the gauntlet. Although you could make an argument that in order to wield a sword of that size you'd need a magic gaun...

Re: How to deal with specks

If you're really speedy you can sometimes clean up mistakes as they happen with a clean, dry brush. Otherwise I'd say maybe use a thicker version of whatever the base colour is to do your touch ups.

I preordered in March, and they shipped in December. So what, 9 months? It then took another month from shipping to arrival.

Been 5 months since August. I'd say don't start worrying quite yet, khadeorn.

Had to admit I laughed out loud when I read the topic title.

I honestly am curious as to how you would manage to paint realistic looking tits on those models. So I voted yes, in the spirit of scientific inquiry of course.

It's a great idea. I'd love to participate but (1) history very reliably says I wouldn't hit the points/month mark and (2) I'm moving next month and that's just a whole thing. Just to toss an idea out there with regards to the "what counts as how many points" question... what about assigni...

I agree with everything that's been said about the quality of entries - the creativity of folks here seems to always be a lovely surprise when these story competitions pop up (though I suppose I will no longer be surprised from now on)! As has also been noted, it's also a great motivation to develop...

Will comment on the minis themselves when they arrive!
