Re: 2017 NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE

And, having finally come out of two months of moving-related hell, I'm going to see if I can't get some Liberators done for March. Also, fantastic work on all the stuff posted since the end of January. I was particularly fond of Daeron's Dark Riders and CoK's Lizardmen, wish I could manage that leve...

Re: 2017 NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE

Done! Not my finest work, but moving house means I won't get a chance to do any more on it. The skin-cloak stitches need work, but otherwise it's about done. Before: Shard - pre.jpg After: Shard - done.jpg Apologies for the big pictures, I wasn't sure how to shrink them properly in the time I had av...

Re: 2017 NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE

It can be for any army! How is everyone going so far - I must say I need to get cracking myself Just need to base the Shard - not my best work, but should get there (parental duties notwithstanding...) I've been distracted by trying to paint some Sigmarines to use the much-neglected Wardens of the ...

Re: 2017 NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE

Having just returned to a location with working internet and where I don't have to look after a toddler quite as much of the time, I'll book myself in to paint a Tenebrael Shard.

Re: Does experince matter?

I couldn't agree more - experience with WFB (any edition) is of limited value in AOS. It can even be a hindrance, particularly when you're used to always striking first... As has been said above, AOS is a different game. The lack of an inbuilt balancing mechanism (so far) makes it even harder for a ...

Re: New Box Release?

I strongly suspect you'll be waiting a long time for it. There were none with the Order battletome, probably because it would have been difficult to single out a faction. For Dark Elf miniatures, I'd expect a Darkling Covens, Scourge Privateers or Daughters of Khaine box ahead of an Order Serpentis ...

On a side note, the Varghulf has sold out on the GW website.

I'm hopeful that there's going to be a new model coming.

Re: Thrall Warhost Question

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Kill Them Now! gives you an out-of-sequence charge, pile-in and attack with the unit chosen, which takes place in the Hero phase. Assuming that they met all the criteria to be able to charge again in the Charge phase (i.e. more than 3 inches from any enemy units, and ...

Re: New play modes for AoS incoming

Bring it on, I say. One of the main gripes people have had with AOS is the lack of a balancing mechanic, which has been a problem since launch. The risk GW runs with this system is that it will not actually be balanced at all (or will at least have massive power-creep/power-seep issues), which I'm s...

Re: Bloodwrack Sisterhood

The formation bonus isn't particularly reliable, but when it works, it's hideously good. The special bonus for the Corsairs formation (Realm Reavers) is flat-out brutal, particularly when combined with the Fleetmaster's command ability, but that's offset against the general not-awesomeness of Corsai...

Re: Next AoS release

I'll be interested to see some of the new Order formations. Other than that, the wait continues for me. OK, maybe GW is selling the industrial-strength Filla-Glue variety, in which case it's still expensive, but for the regular stuff (assuming it's the same stuff they used to sell before - ie. the b...

Re: Topic of the Week - If you could choose a new leader...

To answer that question with a question: Why only one? Dark Elven culture has never been a monolith, and the competitive nature of the Druchii/Exiles/Dread Elves is such that acquiescence to a single leader (in the absence of Malekith and Morathi) would be... unseemly to me. The beauty of the End Ti...

Re: Wounding Question for AoS

No, characters are a different unit. Actually, that's bad for characters as they are liable to suffer a lot from shooting and magic missiles. Agreed. I think AOS really pushes towards having characters on huge slobberin' monsters - they're going to get shot at anyway, so you might as well have lots...

Re: Wounding Question for AoS

You'll have 6 very dead rat-men in the example given. Excess wounds carry over within the same unit. Each attack in AOS is directed against a unit, rather than a specific model. Once wounds are suffered (i.e. after all to hit, to wound, saves and D3/D6 Wounds rolls have been made), they are allocate...

I've just checked the GW site, and all of these items are now sold out except for the Skaven Battalion, the Beastmen Battalion and the Skaven slings pack. Looks like Beastmen are going to disappear altogether, as a search for "beastmen" on the GW site only returned the Battalion on the La...

Re: Cloak of Twilight and magic weapon

The Cloak of Twilight gives the Multiple Wounds (D3) and Killing Blow rules to the model wearing it (in the first round of any combat). It stacks with the effects of any weapon the model may be carrying, whether magical or otherwise. So, in the example you gave, a model with Cloak of Twilight and Og...

Re: Topic of the Week - Your hobby resolutions for 2016

I'm taking the opportunity of the lull in Dark Elf/Exiled Aelf releases and fluff to actually start painting and modelling units and terrain. I've also started dabbling in Malifaux, although I think that will remain more of an interest than a genuine pursuit. I'm having trouble getting WFB or AOS ga...

Re: Combating those pesky HE

Age of Sigmar disproportionately favours single model units and large gribblies. They don't have to take battleshock tests and generally can put out a lot of damage, and they give you access to Sudden Death conditions. There's a reason why tournaments for AOS tend to restrict the number of monsters ...

Re: Topic of the Week - A new woman / female character?

I'm a sucker for the Sisters of Slaughter, and I will confess to a certain bias concerning a character of my own creation. In that case, we'd have a character focused on becoming the best instinctive warrior around, dedicated to the art of fighting and the joy of combat as much as anything else (wit...

If those are your work they look pretty damn good to me. I think the last one you have is most dark elfish. The first and second give me more of a wood elf feel. As for feel, if we go with D&D influences, I loved the dark sun setting. This part from lotr is what I imagined for desert styled bla...

Re: Topic of the Week - Pick your favourite Realm !

For 9th Age: My take on the Dread Elves is that they reside in the darker, more inhospitable parts of the world - remote forests, elevated plateaus in the shadows of mountain ranges, island fortresses, wind-whipped coastal areas and the like. Their settlements would be well-fortified and provide sh...

A2: Careful! there are two situations covered by the rules. A and B fight Z, kill Z, overrun into Y. - If Y was already in melee with C, and if also Y and C did not solved yet their combat, then when comes the resolution between Y and C, you will have A+B+C fight Y. All of them, yes! However, if th...
