Re: Beyond the End Times - What is next.....
I probably spent over $500 dollars last month in order to start a Dark Elf army. I played Dark Elves back in 4th Edition but had never fleshed out the army. I love the aesthetic of the new sculpts, especially the Cold Ones; in fact, the Cold Ones Knights are probably the main reason for wanting to s...

Re: 500pts only heroes and core
Yes, all units picked at start will be reused later on. After every match, units (and caracters) will gain experience and will get stronger (better stats, bigger units) After every battle, you can also earn points to get rare and special units... A little like Mortheim Interesting...what are the ru...

Re: 500pts only heroes and core
The Dark Pegasus does not count as a monster? I came up with a quick 498 point list. Master: Lance, Heavy Armor, Sea Dragon Cloak, Cold One, Dawnstone Sorceress: Level 1 (Doombolt) 15 Dreadspears: Full Command 10 Darkshards: Musician While other core options are considered superior, I think that num...

Re: BSB Master?
Unless you are playing a 500 point battle, I would recommend always taking a BSB. Dark Elves have above average leadership, but they cost a lot of points per model, so losing a unit due to a failed leadership test is unacceptable.

Best formation/size for "City Guard?"
While I am aware there are better core options available, I really love the look of a legion of uniformed spearmen and crossbowmen. My question is what are good unit sizes and formations? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but my search results were not successful. As an Empire player, I usual...

Re: Elite item combinations for multiple dreadlords lists
I like Cold One mounts, so... 1. Ogre Blade, Armor of Fortune, Dawnstone, Cold One (+2 Strength, 1+ re-rollable, 5++): A defensive build with a little more bite. 2. Warrior Bane, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Potion of Toughness, Cold One (Opponent loses 1 Attack for each unsaved wound, 1+ re-rollabl...

Re: Assassins are awesome role players
Not sure what the hate is all about for Assassins. I field mine with Killing Blow, a Potion of Strength, and Glittering Scales - he does great as my challenge-monkey! I think Killing Blow would definitely be the way to go. I've managed to kill several vampires with Empire Witch Hunters with only th...

Re: Elite item combinations for multiple dreadlords lists
It was until recently the only multiwound h-t-h option we had. Though there is also the assassination version: Cloak, Obsidian Blade. - obviously the problem here is wounding, but MP makes it workable. A potential 12 wounds (KB) in one turn, which also has a chance of removing the opponents return ...

Re: Elite item combinations for multiple dreadlords lists
Sword of Antiheroes, Black Amulet, and Dragon Helm could be decent for challenges since in a challenge you would have a minimum of five strength 5 attacks, plus the Black Amulet's rebound. On the other hand, the enemy character will likely have around a 2+ armor save, so you may be better off with t...

Re: Modelling Question 2: Scourgerunner Chariot Cape
Hey Beastlord! I've been going down a similar route - maybe check out the latter posts of my PLOG (see sig). There's a few notes I'd summarise here, but you see brought to life there! Those heroes look great, and I had a similar methodology in mind. I want to create a Dreadlord that looks like the ...

Re: Modelling Question 2: Scourgerunner Chariot Cape
Hmmm...it appears that the Corsair torsos consist of the front, armored portion, and the back half of the torso with the Sea Dragon cloak. I had looked at them, and figured that I could either (A) use the entire torso, or (B) shave off the rear part of the torso from the cloak. My only issue is that...

Dark Elf colors and heraldry question.
I'm sure this has been discussed extensively, but I haven't found anything useful after searching this site and on the Internet using search terms such as heraldry, city colors, symbols, etc. I currently own the 4th and 8th edition Dark Elves army books, so likely missed quite a bit (for example, th...

Re: Modelling Question 2: Scourgerunner Chariot Cape
Is the long, flowing Sea Dragon Cloak on the Beastmaster easily compatible with, say, a Cold One Knight or Dreadlord on Dragon armored torso? I want a Sea Dragon Cloak for my Dreadlord on Cold One, but don't want to sculpt one.

Re: Why is End of Times: Khaine kind of lousy
I think it's all going to move to a different 'dimension', wherever Araloth ends, with probably a whole new map, that's just maybe a tiny bit more imaginative than the current one. That's a shame, as I've always liked the pseudo-Earth map. I also liked the fact that there were several human kingdom...

Re: Why is End of Times: Khaine kind of lousy
I will miss Naggaroth as a setting. I always loved its geography and culture, with its bleak mountains and forests and dark foreboding cities. It was my favorite part of the Warhammer World. That's a shame. If GW is hoping to save Warhammer, I really don't see how destroying 30 years of established...

Why use Spearmen/Dreadspears when you have access to Eternal Guard now?
Because they look cool. The entire Dark Elf line is awesome, and is probably one of the most aesthetically coherent armies out there.

Re: Battle vs. Vampire Counts
Disclaimer: I don't play Dark Elves but am looking to start an army; however, my main army is Empire and my regular opponent is Vampire Counts. First, if your opponent decides to use the End Times Undead Legion list, his armies won't crumble if the general is slain, since that list uses its own unde...

Re: Reptile themed army viable in 8th edition?
If you like Phalanxes, you can still field Blackguard. I'm not a huge fan of GW's most recent incarnations of Blackguard models, but check out this unit of "lancers" from Gameszone - very Phalanx-esque. I have three of such models and they work very well as Blackguard substitutes: m The f...

Re: Modelling Question: COK & Black Dragon rider compatibil
I slap my dragonlord on a cold one rather often, and while the legs are a little wide spread, it looks perfectly fine. (I magnetised my dreadlord so he can ride a dragon, pegasus, cold one or steed as required) Another great alternative would be to use CoK legs (they are not that different) and sti...

Re: Reptile themed army viable in 8th edition?
I'm running a bigger cold one unit, and 2 hydras, it is pretty effective and fun. You might want to look at using a high beastmaster on scourgerunner, unfortunately he's pretty expensive, so it is not the most competitive choice but kinda fun. Define "bigger." I would love to have a large...

Re: Reptile themed army viable in 8th edition?
Thank you for the cold welcome. I was thinking about having 50 Spearmen in horde formation supported by Cold One Knights/Chariots on the flanks. Since the Chariots can't march, perhaps they would serve better than the Knights, and can try to keep up with the infantry and charge the opponent's flanks...

Reptile themed army viable in 8th edition?
I don't have a specific army list yet, so figured this would be the more appropriate thread location. I briefly played Dark Elves back in 4th edition, but never fleshed out the army and would like to return, especially since the model range is excellent. What really turns me on are Cold Ones and rep...

Modelling Question 2: Scourgerunner Chariot Cape
I'm thinking about starting Dark Elves after having played them back in 4th edition, and am thinking of what models to purchase. I know that I want to field a Dreadlord on Cold One, but would prefer to make my own from the plastic kits rather than use the Fincecast version. I want the Dreadlord to s...
