If you want a real challange then you should take kroot, but guard is IMO the most inspirering of the 2 armies and you can make it fun. Take for example drop troopers they are almost just as challenging as kroot and just as fun. But I would say that kroot has the most conversion oppertunities.

As a IG player I would say take IG, they are great 'cause what is more fun than deploying a 100+ army with some of the best tanks in the game.
