Re: Boardgames

I own a copy of Scotland Yard and even get my students to play it as a simulation during my Research Methods class. It always makes me laugh that the Police have a limited amount of bus, train, and taxi tickets because, well, try imagining that in real life. There has been an explosion of good board...

Re: Thoughts on my 1600p tourny list?

If you end up facing high elves then those 15 executioners are going to be a risky proposition - those high-elf ASF strikes are going to slice that unit to ribbons before they even get a look in. Maybe take blackguard (could be too expensive though) or witch elves with a cauldron as a more all-roun...

Re: Long live WFB!

Lore of Metal + Brettonian Knights = victory for the Dark Elves. The bigger threat from Brettonia for Dark Elves are their Trebuchets and massed archery.

Re: 8th Edition 1000 point list vs. High Elves

Bleakswords have a sword and shield, which confers a 6+ ward save in close combat (except for against flank attacks and rear attacks), which can be pretty handy. In comparison, Dreadspears have spears, which provide +1 attack from the second rank (or third rank if allayed in a horde formation) (exce...

Re: 8th Edition: 2000 vs Orks and Goblins

IDK, I always liked to have two hammers - maybe a horde of witches and a group of 9-10 Cold One Knights led by a fighting character (I recognize you don't have the models, but it sounds like your army is pretty much comprised of everything you own already, so I'm not sure what you want us to suggest...

Re: 8th Edition: 2000 vs Orks and Goblins

The list looks okay - I'm not convinced by the corsairs, but they will put out a decent number of attacks and night goblins are fairly soft to kill, so they may be okay. I would drop the War Banner - if you are needing to win your battles by Static Combat Res then you've already lost. I'm not sure a...

Re: A Summary of the Silmarillion in Pictures

The Silmarillion is one of my favourite books. It's a masterpiece - vastly exceeds anything else. One thing I would say about it is you have to read it more like you would read the bible than a fiction book - it is truly epic in scope and to some extent Tolkien was writing for the same purpose: to c...

Re: 8th Edition: 2000 vs Brettonia

+1 to T.D.'s excellent points. Also, why is your BSB taking fencer's blades? The boost from WS6 to 10 isn't really going to make that much difference, especially as Dark Elves have ASF in 8th edition, so you are re-rolling misses (and with poison, re-rolling those 3s allows you to aim for more 6s). ...

Thanks for the write up. I've been there my friend - the dice gods placed a hex upon my head a long time ago. Hope you had fun at least Going forwards, I do wonder whether you might aim at making some precision purchases as at the moment your collection is a bit too all-rounder and Dark Elves fare b...

Re: Dark Elf Army to sell

It looks like an impressive range of figures. I'm not in the market for any new minis, but a few tips on how you might get more interest here: 1. Try to give estimates about what you are looking for in exchange for the various models. It's difficult for a potential purchaser to become excited at the...

Re: 8th Edition: 1250 vs Ogre Kingdoms, need help!

Would he let you proxy the corsairs as shades? If so, I would run something along the lines of the following: Lords Supreme Sorceress, Dark Pegasus, Lore of Shadow, Dispel Scroll (a better investment than the staff imo), Talisman of Preservation Heroes Master, BSB, Dark Pegasus, Cloak of Twilight, L...

Re: 8th Edition: 1250 vs Ogre Kingdoms, need help!

Gosh, no, Dark Elf shooting cannot be relied upon to kill high toughness enemies. 5s to hit at long range, followed by 5s to wound, and multi-wound enemies, does not work, especially with ogres who can rush across the board quickly and in 8th edition where charge distances can be massive. If he runs...

Sorry, I don't have the instructions either. Did you buy it directly from GW? If so, you could contact them directly - either in person at the store or by email - and ask them if they have some instructions they could send you? Otherwise, you could have a go at making logical guesses about what goes...

Gosh, looking at the stunning visuals on this made me think it really is time that Warhammer had a proper movie made. Not some budget fan based production, but a full on Peter Jackson style epic with comprehensive budget and effort to boot. Imagine, the story of Aenarion on big screen - it's an incr...

Re: My Har Ganeth Blog

It's hard to be certain from looking at an image, but the contrast on the metal and skin looks a bit underdeveloped to me - could you add a bit more inking and drybrushing to the gold on the helmets and the faces in particular? I agree with CoK on the purple armour too. That all said - I'm not a fan...

Yes, sadly D.net is basically on life support, kept alive by the periodic efforts of mods, very occasional PLOG posts, and bat rep links to youtube that are likely posted to as many sites as the bat-rep player can find in order to generate traffic. At the time that AoS came out, I predicted this wou...

Re: Best Tactics for 8th ed and Age of Sigmar

But the basic problem becomes that dreadspears and bleakswords play exactly the same role - big, steadfast anvil. So, any analysis of dreadspears has to compare them with bleakswords, and in that comparison, dreadspears come out worse. Ultimately, bleakswords perform the assigned role better because...

Yes indeed. Add lore of life and go for flesh to stone and throne of vines as spells. T5 or even T7 execs are rock hard (pun noted but innuendo not intended).

Re: Best Tactics for 8th ed and Age of Sigmar

Dreadspears make for a useful anvil unit, ideal for hosting wizards and adding a roadblock onto the table through which the enemy cannot easily punch through (acting as the center piece in a rolling left or right punch strategy, for example). For that purpose, they would be used in rows of 5 and wou...
