Re: What will you add?
In keeping with my affections for all things nautical, I've added a reasonably-sized unit of Sea Guard and a kit-bashed Sea Helm. They are joined by a unit of Swordmasters escorting a Mage or Loremaster (which will be converted from one of the IOB Swordmaster musicians) and two units of Ellyrian Rea...

Re: Calling all D.net Legal Eagles -- Advice Wanted
Unfortunately, I'm of little use on the IP side of things, having never studied or worked in that area. A lot of international copyright law (loosely) follows a number of conventions, but there are subtle differences from country to country. A claim for infringement of copyright might be more or les...

Re: Beyond the End Times - What is next.....
The only humour (arguably) from the whole debacle, if it goes ahead, is that GW were able to make one final passing stab at the poor Wood elf player base, by releasing their long, long overdue book and refreshed miniature range about as close to the demolition date as they could reasonably manage. ...

Re: Ulthuan.net Story Competition - New Steel
Thanks, all. I had a few other ideas, but none of them met the "must involve Asur in a meaningful way" criterion.* I've checked out a few of the stories on Ulthuan.net... this is positively brief compared to some of them. There's some excellent writing on that forum as well (including by M...

Re: Shroud of Despair in infantry unit
Shroud of Despair is a hex spell.
Hex spells do not require line of sight and can be cast at targets outside the caster's forward arc.
Your sorceress can stay safe in rank #2 and cast Shroud of Despair without impediments.

Re: ASF vs ASF: Higher Ini = Rerolls?
not exacly. when a asf + asl fights a enemy with asf you both strike at the same time. as per the rules you quoted. there is no exeption in the rules, both models have asf so they strike simutaniously. bus since one of them has asl he has to strike with his initiative. thus both strike simutanioisl...

I just think when they tell you to use the special rules and options from the other books they are telling us to use the items listed therein. As soon as I read that I had no question in my mind and I am a lawyer use to scrutenizing rules and laws. If you all want to read more into it then I won't ...

Re: OTS and tzinch ward saves
I was under the impression that the core FAQ had ruled that if you have conflicting rerolls, for instance reroll ward saves and OTS, they canceled each other out. My concern would be that the chaos player would argue that since the OTS turned off the reroll of 1s that it would then be spent and not...

Re: Magic Items for Khaine
Now, I would like you to consider how GW dealt with special rules. GW took care to rephrase fully such special rules as "Hekarti's Blessing", "Murderous Prowess" and a few other ones. However, the new wording is sometimes the exact same as in the original army books. Can you exp...

Re: Can units from one elf book take magic items from anothe
Tell me how, under any plain English reading of the rules, that 'options and special rules' do NOT included the magic items lists. Really, your argument ignores the elephant in the corner. Because at no point in any army list entry does it state that characters from a particular book may select mag...

Re: Can units from one elf book take magic items from anothe
OK, fluff argument striked out. Still, I don't recall Tyrion trying to rule the united Elves (including Naggaroth), but only to try to kill Malekith. You're pretty much spot on, at least in relation to how things ended. To begin with, after he drew the Widowmaker, Tyrion was trying to bring them al...

Re: Can units from one elf book take magic items from anothe
I would also object against these alleged RAI because of fluff: the Aestyrion would have access to the Banner of Nagarythe, i.e. the personal standard of the Witch King, which proclaims his right to rule not only Naggaroth, but the ten kingdoms of Ulthuan as well. Without wanting to contest your re...

Ulthuan.net Story Competition - New Steel
Hi all I've submitted an entry for the Ulthuan End Times story competition, building on the tale of Malendris the Sister of Slaughter in my entry for our own "Khaine vs. Asuryan" story contest. The first part has already been posted as a short story in the "History of the Druchii"...

Yeah Morathi is bonkers under ET:K magic, miasma then purple fun and clean up with pit of shades (it's 14+ so spammable) where necessary, she can start deleting units wholesale. PoD to bring back dice and repeat. The catch is that you only get one chance to cast Purple Sun, and if you roll less tha...

Re: DE Special Infantry in the End Times: BG viable?
Vanilla DE aside, I'd like to gear up for EoT battles, which are usually at 5000 pts in our local store. In a combined elven army, how would you setup a block of these guys? Is it a good idea to put in a CoB if Alarielle is in the list and hanging back with, say, a small bunker of Phoenix Guard (4+...

Re: Can units from one elf book take magic items from anothe
There's nothing in any book which suggests that units from one Elf book can take magic items which appear in another Elf army book. For example, there is nothing to support the argument that Black Guard may take the Banner of the World Dragon, or that a Shadowdancer may take the Chillblade, or that ...

Re: Next ET books
I think they come with a 5+ ward save, and the magic one can either have a 4+ ward save or an extra thrown attack. I'd pretty much always take the 4+ ward save. Who wouldn't?! Thankfully, you don't have to choose when you're selecting the model. The +1 to ward save is standard on the Warpseer, but ...

@Haagrum: Sir...your examples are pure evil Another endorsement for why no 'sane' individual should even attempt to play with Khaine magic. You're too kind, Gidean. ET:K magic rules are ridiculous as they stand, although it's worse for some armies than others. I think it must be an occupational sid...

Re: Magic in the End Times: foreign strategy
The new rules have made loremasters of hoeth a terrifying prospect too. Trading 2 wizard levels for access to 8 signature spells was a decision I always struggled with, but trading 2 wizard levels for 65 spells? Dat tactical freedom. Well, they don't get the End Times spells... but still, access to...

Re: Morathi, mistress of Slaanesh
Morathi has a few redeeming features (which are overwhelmingly outweighed by her less-positive ones). For starters, despite countless suitors and the passing of several thousand years, she has never stopped loving her husband Aenarion. Until the End Times, when she had to choose between her son and ...

Also worth noting that in End Times: Nagash, Eldyra is taken captive during the battle between the undead and the elves, and sired as the first known elven vampire. The implication is that she becomes a vampire, but she is something substantially different. ET: Khaine suggests that she does not tru...

What advice would best be heeded with regard to running corsairs? I plan on running about 30 with Lokhir. Need a cauldron? Anything at all? Just my $0.02... A large unit of Corsairs won't need a cauldron, but they will need some magic support to be competitive against other races' elite forces. Wit...

@ Haagrum: You can house rule until the sun goes down. Nothing beats the brb magic system in my opinion. It works. Even six dicing is hit and miss and often doesn't even meet the casting value you are going for. Don't take this the wrong way, Gidean, but when you've condemned something before even ...

Re: End Times: Khaine
IMHO, the new magic rules reek of under-playtesting. Nevertheless, I am satisfied that they do not suck if the following changes are made: 1. The rule about spellcasters knowing every spell from every lore from which they know one or more spells only applies to wizards who randomly generate spells o...

Re: Next ET books
Pfft! Given its ET:Khaine more or less confirmed that the new everqueen replaces her mother when a new king is crowned that means Caledor II knocked up his sister. And the High Elves had the nerve to call the Druchii degenerate... although she was technically his half-sister, not that it makes this...
