Re: WFB Reworked and Rebalanced

I hate to say it but it looks like R&R has been abandoned. He hasn't posted anything new in quite a while.

Re: Ramza trying his best at painting

The highlights on the wings help enormously. They really define the separate wing sails.

The scales, especially on the top of the arch of the neck, still seem to blend together. But it's still an improvement over the unhighlighted version.

Re: Ramza trying his best at painting

Not too bad for early work. The scales could use some more defining, either with higlights of the scales or a wash between them, but other than that not bad. The problem you'll find about a year down the road is that you'll look at it and say to yourself "Man, I could do so much better on that ...

I understand their problems, but their 'solutions' are making DE feel a lot like something OTHER than DE.

Bolt of Darkness is no longer the signature spell of black magic =]

Another pointless change. Sigh.

Re: Dark Acolytes

Simple solution: Don't take the champion if you're going to want to use the unit in CC.

With a champion, it's pretty similar in cost to a L2 caster with the 4++ save amulet. The only real difference is that this caster comes with a built-in bunker. Treat it as such and you won't go wrong.

Re: Blades of Nabh

Witches were great at handling large units of stuff with low saves, Executioners excelled at handling smaller units of heavily armored stuff. Executioners can still do their job, but now Witches cannot do their job. And due to the nature of DE utterly DEPENDING on each part of the army to fill their...

I do wish they'd quit changing things all the time; I can't wait for this whole shebang to settle down. I'd rather have a spell I can RELIABLY use and not chop too deeply into the PD pool. If I want to cast Bolt of Darkness, I can take it as the default on my L4 and cast it significantly easier. Alt...

Re: Dark Acolytes

Fast cav with 2 S4 poison attacks with 4++ saves? YES PLEASE! One more point for short ranged S4 poison shooting doesn't suck either. The only real complaint I have is that Bolt of Darkness is quite difficult for a L1 caster to get off without using a hefty amount of power dice. Fireball would be a ...

Re: Harpies

Harpies are the ultimate chaff unit in the DE army. Flying means they can be kept safe behind your battleline until they are needed to block a charge, and they're cheap which makes them expendable. Some like to use them as meatshields in front of their battleline, depending on the -1 to hit from ski...

Re: Raven Cloaks

Small units of shades are great chaff, and also excel in the anti-chaff role. They make credible warmachine hunters IF you can get them deployed behind the enemy battleline (if not, M5 will rarely get you there in time). As scouts they can also be used to block enemy vanguard moves. Large units of s...

Re: Dark Raiders

I can't speak to 9th Age specifically (there's all one of me interested in playing it in a 100+ mile radius), but in 8th they were great fast cavalry, arguably the best in the game. Spear charges and Repeater crossbows make them exceptional in the chaff-clearance role and credible warmachine hunters...

Re: [PLOG] Lonicera's Enraptured Pleasurehost (6th Edition C

When I did a gauzy, transparent white dress, I painted it a warm white (in the old GW line it was Kommando khaki, Bleached Bone, a 50/50 mix of Bone and Skull White, and very careful top highlight of pure white). A VERY thin application of brown ink glaze brought the folds of the dress out. Then I s...

Re: Question About The Old Hellcannon Model

I'm not exactly worried about the kids. For most of the world's population over most of the course of history, everyone lived in a one-room shack... and kids were often present (if asleep... or pretending to) when their younger siblings were conceived. And still the vast majority came out alright. B...

Re: Question About The Old Hellcannon Model

I never took a ruler to one, so I'm guessing. But it appeared to be about 4" long, 3" high, and 2" wide (minus outrigger chains). Make it at least that big and you should be okay. Slaneeshi, eh? If you play at a club/game store... remember there might be kids around - and more importa...

Re: Dread Elves Army Book is out!

The trick is going to be dealing with the new spear (KB vs. cavalry) and parry (overall -1 to hit) rules. Those two really HURT cavalry.

Which is the only reason why SoS even have a CHANCE at making it into 9th Age. The RT was going to remove them entirely (why else would they not make the TAC?) but there's been enough support for keeping them that they're rethinking things. Whether what results from their rethinking things is still ...

Re: Where are the Sisters of Slaughter!

The 9th Age rules committee seems to be very big on making sure units have unique roles. If they can't see a role a unit can be pigeonholed into they don't like the unit and either nerf it to ineffectiveness or just try to remove it. OR, they warp it all out of recognition to fit a role they assign ...

And the 4++ save in close combat is confirmed gone. It's a good question what (if anything) is going to replace it so SoS don't become very expensive Witches.

I haven't specifically looked either, but it seemed pretty clear in the discussions that character steeds were losing all semblance of fast cav rules in 9th Age.

Even the Wood Elves, who had the best argument for keeping it.

Re: Har Ganeth Executioners Synergies & Tactics 8th/9th edit

When all else fails, converting Handbow Corsairs into Shades is pretty simple. Just smooth greenstuff over the scales of the sea dragon cloak and you're done.

But Dark Riders, Harpies, Peggy masters, and Warlocks are wonderful aids to the Dark Elf maneuver battle.

The bright yellow snake heads on the Medusa are brilliant (in more ways than one)! It really pops against the darker colors, and actually looks like some sort of tropical venomous snake.
