Pit of shades and single model

Post by Agifem »

Let's say i cast pit of shades on a chariot. Clearly the 3" of the spell is not enough to cover the whole chariot. Is it really only hit on a 4+ ? Even when it's the only target of the spell ?

obviously, a 4+ roll is necessary seeing as its only partially covered

This is correct, think of it as being too big to fall down the hole.

It's also the best thing we have for dealing with the Empire Steam Tank. Provided you get it off you have a 50/50 chance of killing the thing out right.

That's gotta be good.

I diasagree. Normally the chariot would collapse in 2 by falling down a hole so it should be affected.

I would agree with the fact that it's partially covered.

I agree that normally the chariot would collapse in 2, but that would be if the chariot doesn't move at all and the rule of partially covered is about getting out of it without too much trouble.

Doesn't work on a steam tank unfortunately. Only spells with a given strength can affect the metal monstrosity...

Oh I did not know that Steam tanks can only be hurt by strength spells!

I don't have the book with me (I'm at work) but if i recall the spell description has words to the effect that the model is removed regardless of remaining wounds or any special rules.

As the steam tank has a "special rule" saying it can only be harmed by spells with a striength value and the pit of shades says it ignores special rules I'd say the rules for the spell trump the rules for the tank. RAW and all that.

Cheers

@Vogon: The steam tank is not affected because its special rules mean it doesn't take the I test. The part of the spell that ignores special rules only comes into effect once the I test is failed.

And, on topic, a chariot is hit on a 4+.

The Steam Tank thing has been beaten to death in other threads -- let's just say that there is room for disagreement about Pit of Shades v. Steam Tank, and not hijack this thread to discuss.

Although it may not make sense, since you would think it would be easier to hit a big target, you do need to make a 4+ roll to hit a big thing like a chariot with Pit of Shades. There is a benefit to being on a 50mm x 100mm base
