Does the Gorebeast get to attack?

Post by Gidean »

W= Chaos Warrior
D= Dreadlord
E= Executioner

WWWW
DEEEEE <-----Gorebeast Chariot

Our stalwart Dreadlord and his remaining 5 executioners are fighting Chaos warrior to the front when they are flanked by a charging Gorebeast Chariot. Impact hits kill two executioners leaving only the command group of Champion, Std and Mus.

When the Chariot warriors attack they kill the last of the executioners (the champion).

Question? Does the Gorebeast get to then attack the Dreadlord when his initiative 2 come up? Only the Dreadlord is still alive. Does the Gorebeast 'move up'?

As far as I know, yes. The contact is preserved for the duration of the combat as long as the dreadlord and execs were part of the same unit.

If they were two separate unit (lone dreadlord next to the execs) then the chariot would be out of combat as soon as it killed the last executioner.

See...I thought the situation would be akin to when your dark riders attack and kill off 4 of the 5 warhounds, your slower horse that are no long in base contact just lose out.

The main objective is to keep all 3 units in contact and combat if possible when casulties are removed. In this instance, the chariot would be moved forward (and slightly down so that it doesn't hit the warriors) so that it is in contact with the dreadlord. Alternatively, if the chariot could not be moved forward due to intervening terrain, units, etc., the dreadlord would shift to the right to maintain contact with both units. Page 61, shrinking units, provides more details.
