Can your SS use the Banner of Discipline with Spirit Leech?

Post by Mustangtc »

Hi all,

If I put my general SS in a unit of spears with the Banner of Discipline her Ld increses to 10. If she then casts Spirit Leech from the Lore of Death on an enemy character which leadership value do I use? 9/10?

Also, Doom & Darkness from the same lore reduces an opponents Ld value. Does this affect Spirit Leech?

I appreciate the wording of Spirit Leech is "unmodified Leadership" but feel the need to check as have just read on a different thread here of the first being used as a viable tactic.

Regards,

It´s allowed to use the LD10. Best tactic to snipe chars with LD 9 and less  (especially mean against Skaven ;))

Hello - I'm really not sure this is correct. Unmodified Leadership means unmodified. I have not seen an FAQ, etc., so I don't have final proof, but plain language suggests the Sorceress will ALWAYS test on a 9. Conversely, her opponents will test on their printed leadership as well.

I also believe they test on their printed leadership. As the above poster mentioned, it's unmodified leadership.

It used to be a valid tactic to use the Banner of Discipliine but no longer. They defined the term "unmodified leadership" in the FAQ.

Indeed they did. It's pretty straight forward really, when they say unmodified.
What's mine is mine, What's yours is mine.
Now that we understand each other, lets get down to business.

Here is the FAQ.
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... __V1_3.pdf

On page 4 it says:
Q: When taking a Leadership test, sometimes you have to take it on
your unmodified leadership. What is your unmodified leadership?
(p10)
A: Your unmodified Leadership is the highest Leadership
characteristic in the unit. Do not include any modifiers from
any source, for example, Strength in Numbers, Inspiring
Presence or the Doom and Darkness spell.

First, Spirit leech is no Leadership test. You simply ADD your Leadership Characteristic to the dice result. And on page 4 it also says:

Q: Does a magic item or spell that gives a bonus to a characteristic,
do so bonus for all rules purposes (e.g. the effect of spells,
characteristic tests, etc)? (p4)
A: Yes, except for magic weapons or where the description of
the item or spell specifically says otherwise.

But as the spell says unmodified LD and the last Q/A was about items grant effects for all rule purposes "except where the description of the spell specifically says otherwise" you seem to be right.

Sorry for this, missed that ;)

You can put your dreadlord in the unit for leadership 10 on Spirit Leech. I sometimes fly my Lord on Peg into the death mage bunker on the first couple of turns for that reason. She has the focus familiar so can reach out and touch enemy characters from quite some distance away.
