Hello, I'm rather new to the new Druchii, and to be honest: to the game as well I made up this list to compete with my brothers, fairly new gamers as well, they are playing dwarves and Orcs&Goblins.
Lords & Heroes
1 Supreme Sorceress (lvl 4, focus familiar, black staff, dragon) [660]
1 Sorceress (lvl 2, horse, darkstar cloak) [172]
1 Sorceress (lvl 2, dispell scroll, power stone) [180]
Troops
10 xbows (shields) [110]
5 Dark Riders (muso, xbows) [117]
5 Dark Riders (muso, xbows) [117]
5 COKnights (dread, st. bearer, null talisman) [182]
5 Shades (light armour) [85]
1 War Hydra [175]
2 RBT [200]
makes 1998. I'm not completely convinced of the light armour on the shades, but didn't really know what to do with the last 7 points...
Deployment: sorceress on steed with dark riders, other with xbows.
Plan is to magic and shoot the enemy to death, and to finish some units off in close combat with the Knights, Dragon and Hydra.
So, how does this look to you? Since I'm rather new, all advice is welcome, I'm open to almost anything

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadow shall spring
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken
the crownless again shall be king.

Can't you? Oops... said I was a newbie ;-). I've taken the black staff and changed it into the pendant. Gives me 20 more points to play with; I can give the shades Great Weapons as I intended to. That leaves me with 12 points left.
can one do something meaningfull with 12 points of do I add another xbow-warrior?

Should I swap the shades and 5 DR for a block of infantry perhaps? Or tune down one of the sorceresses? (I took 3, since I really wanted to go magic-heavy, but maybe 2 will do also?)

I think the first thing you have to consider is - what will the amount of magic resistence (not MR) be in terms of DD, scrolls, enemy wizards, etc. - then you decide the powerlevel of your own army! having 8 lvls of magic might be over the top if your opposition brings none...
You don't necessarily HAVE to bring infantry, a lot of winning armies out there haven't, but when you field a small army like this you'll be very dependent on moving almost flawless. You are also dependent on choosing your magic lores correctly, since you'll be counting on your spells to add the strength you're missing in terms of man-power!
Have a look at these lists:
http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=59316 (No 4th lvl).
http://www.druchii.net/viewtopic.php?t=59079 (Lvl4 on dragon).
That'll give you some ideas on this sort of armies ...

I find the level4 on a dragon a great model with soo many benefits. I would keep the riders. The BD list is a avoidance list and combat focused.

@ Enfant Terrible: my enemies are Dwarves and O&G. The dwarves player will have like 5-6 DD, while the O&G runs 3 lvl2 shamens. My previous list had only a scroll caddie, but I wanted to push the magic-door far wide open with this one...
Since I'm not a veteran (not at all...) maybe these sort of lists will prove hard for me... that's where some decent infantry would kick in, wouldn't it?
As for the lvl4 and the dragon, I think the familiar is a necessity, since otherwise she's muted once in combat (and that's where the dragon is all about...).
Last idea was to add some corsairs by removing the scouts and tune a sorceress down to lvl 1
