First DE armylist

Post by Alexvdkort »

Hi, I just recently started dark elves. Mainly because of the superb models.
I have come up with the following army list:

(2500 pts.)

Supreme sorceress- Pendant of khaeleth, Sacrificial dagger
Master- lance, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, shield, cold one, Ring of darkness
Master- BSB, Armour of darkness, Dawn stone
Death hag- Cauldron of blood
Assassin- Rune of khaine, Touch of death

20 Corsairs- full command
20 Crossbowmen
40 Spearmen- full command
5 Harpies
19 Black guard- full command
9 Cold one knights- full command, Gleaming pendant
War hydra

So what do you think of it?? Any comments?

You could drop that BSB Master and just hand the BSB to the Death Hag. This gives you a lot of free points.

The Assassin is very fragile, and since you get more return attacks now, he will usually die quickly. I don't think they are really worth the many points, anymore. Besides, he has no AHW listed. I would rather play another Sorceress (i.e. Level 2 with Tome of Furion).

Your 20 Crossbowmen could use Shields and Command (Musician is a must for Swift Reform; Standard Bearer might be good if they later help out in close combat).

Some more Harpies and/or Shades (with AHW) are always useful.

The Black Guard won't complain about some extra punch from the Banner of Murder.

Overall, I think it is a solid list. :D

not enough units for my taste, at 2500 pts, i want to have at least 10, but prefer 12 and up deploymentslots, many opponents can just wait and see what you place where to give them a favorable match up

Hi, alexvdkort, welcome in D.net! :)

In addition to what has been said, Corsairs love the SSS "frenzy" banner.

About having many character:
as you begin your army, it is sound to spend less money and spend less painting time by getting many characters.
Later on, when the money / time becomes available again, it will be nice to get more units, indeed.
At that time, the many characters available will remain as alternative choices.
Especially the assassin: when your opponents know that you use them, the mere sight of your model in your carrying case will make them paranoid, even if your army list does not include him!

tnx, i forgot to list the additional handweapon on the assassin, and the shields on the spears and xbows.

I like the assassin to killing blow a strong close combat character who will ive me a hard time without him.

So i drop the master BSB and give it to the death hag, add in some more harpies (5) and give the banner of murder to the black guard. I'll also get a musician for my xbows.

Something else, still got about 40 points to spend. I can drop some spears to add some shades.

Would 2 units of harpies and 5 shades be enough to hunt some warmachines/mages or do i need to find some points for a unit dark riders. And where would i find those points? The other master?

The problem with the Assassin is, that he has one turn to kill the opposing character, afterwards he is dead most likely.

But I would definitely recommend trying it out for yourself. If it works for you, great! If not, swap him out for something else later (or try the Rending Stars/Manbane variant deployed with your Shades, if you include a unit). It's just a single model. :)

2x Harpies and 1x Shades sounds good enough to me.

hmm ok, the assassin is a bit expensive.

deleting him and some tinkering here and there i came up with the following list:

supreme sorceress- pendant, dagger
death hag- cauldron, BSB

20 corsairs- full command, SSS
30 warriors- full command, shields
30 warriors- full command, shields
20 xbows- shields, musician
5 harpies
5 harpies

20 black guard- full command, banner of murder
10 cold one knights- full command, gleaming pendant, ruby ring of ruin
5 shades- add handweapon
1 war hydra

what do you think of this list? better?

That looks pretty good, yes. :)

You will need to decide what Lore of Magic you want to use.

This is basically what I played in my first two games of 8th after being away since mid 6th. I won the first & tied the second. Shadow was the lore I chose not knowing what I would face, treated me pretty kindly.

10 deployment slots, low char points, very good,

now to turn the thinking to combine and win in one turn(old 6th edition thinking, but very worthwhie again in 8th), not enough units.

still, for a first DE list, dont bother listen to my comments, use that last list and see:

when would you have wanted to be ableto deploy certain units later (e.g. after your opponent had to deploy their antihetes)
when would combined charge have made a difference
when would i have wanted that CoC (the big missing unit here with quite a few blocks).

still try this last list and see where above points apply before making an ultimate list and not knowing why its so good
