The group 34 OOC thread > basically dead

Post by Smiler666 »

Welcome to the all-singing, all-dancing, eye-boggling, all new group 34 (patent pending) ;)

But on a serious note, now that the new character creation rules are up I can finally get the ball rolling on my shiny new group. So if you need an incentive to repost your character then here it is. Anyways, a little info:

- This will be a very free-form group, there will be times when I have to nudge the group in a certain direction, but other than that you will be free to wander off in any direction.

- Your characters prosperity and, in combat or dire straights, life depends on your post,I will come up with your stats, and whatever skills may help what your trying to do... and of course whether what you want to do is possible. Usually how well/badly you succeed/fail based on those factors, but if I'm unsure, or all outcomes would benefit one player character over another then I will do some dice rolling to decide for me, which I will put in whatever modpost, just so it's clear that I'm not fudging the results.

- Posting deadlines will usually be between 24 - 72 hours depending on how active you are and how lazy I feel :P

- And most importantly: Have fun :D

Smiler666

Good timing, I just returned my character to the pool after updating her. I'd be looking at a group running more than just one or two modposts a week however, so if you're likely to stick to that 24/48 hours posting the majority of the time count me in. If it will usually be more like 72 hours between modposts I may find the pace a little lagging and lose interest. But I'm certainly game.

I'm on every day or two for carathyle's RPgroup, and I'll probably modpost at the same time. The only real limit on when I can post is when the group posts, so I wont be able to give a proper timescale till the group's been going a little while.

Tip from another mod, Deadlines. They set the speed for your RPG. Are you players not up to it? warning, still not doing it. Character death, unless they have a good reason.

Ok, one more question, do you intend to modpost in the first or third person? I am used to writing and reading lines such as "Smiler walked up to the guard and offered him the letter" rather than "Smiler walks up to the guard and offers him the letter", it might not make much difference to most people but I just find it easier to read.

In any case, I'm looking to join either Group 34 or another, but I won't make my decision just yet.

Yes I am quite familiar with deadlines. I play daily posting monday to friday which means a 24 hour deadline between each modpost, although when playing at such an intense level there will always be times when all members of the group fall behind. I don't deal out severe punishment but those players posting the most get the most mod attention, I've only ever had to kill off one player for constantly not posting and posting badly when they did. Now that most of my players are such long time gamers I'm happy for them to take time out where they need it and just move their characters along with the others (albeit in the background for the most part).

But yes, I agree with what you're saying. If you're willing to play 48 or 72 hour deadlines I am most likely willing to join.

Sorry to correct you but those are both examples of the third person :P Anyways, I intend to use the past tense unless the group overwhelmingly wants to use the present. Hope that helps

Funny story, I actually typed "past or present" and then corrected myself to "first or third person"... apparently I did not need to

You can probably count me in, let's just see who else turns up...

Indeed there is a difference, but as I said it is in tense not person, hence past or present rather than first or third. But the point is moot as the perpose of this thread is to allow people who want to join/have joined my group to talk out of character, not question the finer points of grammar. So sign up or shut up :P

Hi.
My Shade character is ready here.
Logging to D.net usually twice a day (this is bound to change to once a day once I've found a job).

I will not mind telling what I/my character do/does/did in the past or present and first or third person(s) as long as it is clear (well, is it?).
And as I just can't shut up, so I have to sign up (... was it me or my character who did it?) :?

Hey!

Think it is okay if I join up even though I am participating in an RP already. Though you and Maveric seem to be okay with it, will have to PM the RP 'God Mod' just to make absolutely certain it's okay!

Since I already have an outstanding Shade character in the rather sexy form of Nathra, will be going with a different class for this RP... Will start work in it right now!

welcome Mini and Calisson :D

@ Calisson I usually only get on once/twice a day anyway, so there shouldn't be any problems there. Good to have you on board.

@ Minigrift Tarbo has okayed it, though he may need to be reminded later on.

So far the cast consists of:
- Kinslayer, as the happiest death mage Athyia
- Calisson, as curious Calis’Shad the shade
- Minigrift, as the extremely ambiguous stranger... at least till he posts up his new character

which is plenty enough for a new group, so we will start at the weekend or (slightly less likely) if a couple more people join.

Okay with me. Just to let you know I am usually active on the site every night in the week, but not at weekends. So if you make a post at a weekend, don't expect to hear from me until monday night (and that's UK time).

It will be good to RP with you Cal ;)

Nice! We have two D.net heavy-weights playing with us!

My character is now posted in the Character Creation pool for your approval (or disapproval). Not quite as 'in depth' as Nathra was as I just made her all up in the last hour or so!

I'm already in an RPG, but due to the LOW amount of characters in the creationpool, I think nobody would mind if I joined another one.

IF you approve, I'm gonna make the character in class cause I need to go to school in a few minutes.

Assuming it is not about my belly but rather my post count. ;)
Please be indulgent as it will be my first RP ever on the net.
I used to play live RP in the previous millenium (D&D, then AD&D, then AD&D2 and a couple of other games but never WarHammer).

So, do I have to review all my antifeminist arguments?

@Cara its really not my choice, you need to ask Tarbo if he's willing to make an exeption to the rules, drainial to see if he's willing to share you and all the members of the groups you are modding if they are fine with you adding to your, already pretty stacked, Dnet workload. Also, I'd rather not break the rules twice before my group has even started, Mini was an exeption as he asked way back when I first announced that I was going to apply to be a group mod and I didn't really have enough players before he joined, whereas now I have about enough, even if it is a bare minimum. I also don't want the same 3/4 people monopolising the RPforum as it is unfair to newer players, makes the forum look very clique-ish and, if I may be allowed to colloquial-ise, it smacks of naz.

@Calisson I'm going to have to ask the same thing of you I'm afraid, because this is the first RPG I have hosted ever, in fact it's also only about the third I have had any involvement with at all. So play nice... Pretty please :D

The "one player per group"-rule is something of etiquette. The thought is to first check with players already in the pool to see whether they would like to join (or leave them a comment on why you felt they wouldn't fit in). This keeps popular players from inadvertently hogging all the spots, as Smiler reasoned.

In casu Minigrift, I gave my go-ahead back then, and I stick with my decision as any responsible parent should. ;) There will be no smiting in this particular instance.

Carathyle, if you're running two groups and playing in another, perhaps it would be best if you sat this one out.

Hey,

Of course I was talking about your post counts (not to mention both of your considerable contributions to D.net), as far as bellies go, I'm sure you don't have any thing to worry about!

And which 'anti-feminist arguments' might these be? (just curious  )

Right, so is the cast assembled? Am ready to begin... You have a curious shade, a happy mage, and... Kayla!

Ho,
I'd like to join as well, but I got my latest charcters on my other computer and will only be able to post him in a cupple of days, but I'll have to work him over again anyways. So if you have any ideas or wishes I still have time to consider them. And ofcause it would be an HONOUR to work with such famous people ;).

Athyia needs money and will work for that (I'm curious to learn who would want to hire her with her Death talents).

Calis’Shad is a professionnal scout and wants to discover the world while he is young. Easy to drive him into a troublesome work.

I'm not sure to understand Kayla's motivation to go adventuring.
Possibly a need of fresh air after ~100 years in a garrison? I imagine that she earned permission for 1 month's paid leave, wouldn't she?
Or was it that an officer, jealous of her feats, found another way to get rid of her? (something like "Hey you, go and get me rainbow paint, you should find some just behind the horizon" ).
Just investigating. ;)
Alternatively and no more joking, she might just have been hired by the same patron than Althia, as Althia's bodyguard. The kind of patron the proposals you can't refuse. The kind of mission that requires an escort, but not too visible.
So when the commanding officer of Kayla's garrison was "politely required" to provide his best bodyguard, she was designated... to her surprise.
Well, just suggesting.

darkdoom wrote:So if you have any ideas or wishes I still have time to consider them.
What about a Khainite? We don't have any at the moment.
Could be the envoy of the patron I was telling about. The Khainite would know what is the mission assigned to the group made of Athyia (the tool required for the mission), her bodyguard Kayla, her spiritual guide (the Khainite) and their scout Calis'Shad.
I let you imagine what kind of mission would require a Khainite covenent to hire a Death Mage rather than an Assassin, nor what would happen to the group in case the mission failed... or succeded (possibly worse)...

For a good RP, the Khainite could take advantage of being sent on a journey and try to spread the "good" word to nonbelievers. That might lead to interesting theological discussions.

RP didn't start yet, or did I miss anything? Anyway there's no blonde, so that removes some options. :(

sup darkdoom, sure you can join.

Okay, the cast so far is:
Kinslayer, as the anti-social independent and quite scary death mage, Athyia
Minigrift, as the anti-social independent and quite scary spiky-armoured warrior, Kayla
Calisson, as the modest and shy shade, Calis'Shad (yeah I can see that being a great combination - thanks guys)
and Darkdoom, as the even more extremely ambiguous stranger (it would be helpful if you could post/pm me at least the character's class and what kind of position s/he is currently in, sometime today)

So here's what's going to happen, the first modpost will go out sometime today, depending on how lazy I am, when/if I get some info out of Darkdoom and what I need to do in the meantime (and without giving too much away Cal, the motivation of the group doesn't overly matter for the first stretch of the RP), the deadline for the first post will be monday evening (GMT), so kinslayer and Darkdoom can get themselves sorted and we'll take it from there. Any problems?

Haven't thought too much about Kayla's ambitions to be honest. Just wanted to make a cool character. Nathra, was easy, she is not only the main character in my 'epic fantasy' novel, but I have also RP'ed with her in the past. All I had to do was give her a suitably Druchii background and she was ready to go. Basically made Kayla up the spot, which took me about an hour.

Oh, and I did mention in her rather short background that she's seeking an honourable death in combat. A bit like Gotrek, now that I think on it further, but without that irritating poncy poet tagging along. Will... explore options in her introduction post ;)

I thought you meant your real life anti-feminist views - that is why I was curious. But, I do seem to have misunderstood...
