Finnaly! Some excitement! Searinox thought to himself as he rushed towards the decks. He had grown tired of the small sparring matches with the Corsairs and could use some real fights to break pace.
Once ontop he could see their target, a merchant ship, nothing special but there is bound to be some interresting goods onboard. If nothing else a break from the water and rations they'd been living of off for the past few weeks.
As the ships closed in on eachother Searinox grabbed one of the entering ropes and unsheathed is long sword. It's black blade glissening in the morning light and giving of a deep purple reflection off of the raven claw shaped hilt.
Just before he jumps over he hears Paithans tactical advise and decides it might be worth trying to flank them from the other side of the ship.
Lets make this enjoyable! He yelled as he swung from the rope across the gap between the two vessels.

Tries to make it as far across the merchant ship as possible to flank the guardsmen at the helm, maybe take out one of the sailors while landing if possible

Five weeks at sea. The "Hungry Gaze" was not that large and Caraoc quickly learned each of her sails, her rigging, and all of her planks - except captain's cabin. The captain had that privilege to sleep in his own room.
The merry scald made soon accointance with the boatswain, the cook, the pilot. Each of them had their own character, burnt with salt, cumulating centuries of experience at sea. They would not talk too much about the captain, though. Caraoc patiently waited for better times to satisfy his curiosity.

The corsair's eagerness paid off, and he was even granted the captain's confidence to steer the ship. This is when you really get to know your ship, after some hours of adjusting the rudder to the ever changing pushes of the waves.

-=-=-

One day, a sail became visible. The "Gaze" 's first prey.
All corsairs and mercenaries went to their battle stations, not trying to hide their exitement.
Caraoc's experience was more about raiding ashore, and he knew little about the ship's specific habits, so he looked what the other corsairs were doing.
As he prepared to toss grapples, the boatswain reminded him that he had been hired to fight along the mercenaries, not to stay along the other corsairs.

The Heavens' mage figured out that a gentle breeze would help their ship to close their target.
A gust carefully aimed might even help the mercenaries to jump into the human's ship, and possibly push some of the humans into the water.
That required a cumulation of Azyr powers.
What better than a nice war song for that purpose?
The human flag, showing a lion, served as an inspiration to the scald.

"Ee-e-e-um-um-a-weh, Ee-e-e-um-um-a-weh,
Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh

On the ocean, the mighty ocean
The lion sleeps tonight
On the ocean, the quiet ocean
The lion sleeps tonight

Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh

Near "Hungry Gaze", the dreadful raider
The lion sleeps tonight
Near "Hungry Gaze", the dreadful raider
The lion sleeps tonight

Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh

Rush and jump in, don't fear of falling
The lion's dead tonight
Rush and jump in, don't fear of falling
The lion's dead tonight

Wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh, wimoweh
Ee-e-e-um-um-a-weh, Ee-e-e-um-um-a-weh"

Concentrating Azyr power with a battle song.
Checking the handbow. Preparing to jump, leaving the first place to more offensive warriors.

It was surprising how quickly the five weeks had passed. One day was indistinguishable from another, sailors were constantly scrubbing the board, mercenaries left to their boredom. The captain hardly ever spoke to them - maybe he feared he would look a fool compared to them, maybe he thought they would die soon and did not bother. Analya's days were filled with climbing in the rigging, honing her muscles and observing the sea. Still the day of their departure almost seemed like yesterday.

The whole raid was strange. The captain did not test their fighting experience, he never asked about it at all - how could he know that they are not untrained children who just had stolen their weapons somewhere? Was he this desperate or did he have some other plan in mind? He dismissed her initial questions in quite a rude way, after all.

No one else seemed to be worried. They were dicing and telling dirty stories and whining about having no wine to drink. So crude. So unambitious. Hopefully they will show some spine eventually.

In the meantime, Analya would have to watch the captain.

***

Then, finally, a ship appeared on the horizon - an ordinary small vessel which was unlikely to carry anything really valuable. And which was probably not going to give them a good fight, too. Analya stretched lazily and went to the side, where the others were already jumping in excitement. The daughter of a noble house did not show this kind of bloodlust - but she was now smiling like she never was in the five past weeks. And then her mood got even better as she saw there were some armoured men on the helm who could hopefully give her a good fight after all.

Time for a show.

Analya walked to a high spot on the bridge next to the other mercenary woman and readied her bow. She waited for the ship to close in a good shooting range, fixed her eyes on the preyed helmsman and aimed carefully. Then, still smiling, she released the arrow. She did not need to hit him fatally, actually - even a small injury would suffice. It would attact the attention of the commander - or who was the man speaking with the helmsman anyway - and once his eyes find her, she would smile at him and wave in a girlish and capricious way.

And then she would pay him a visit.

Shooting an arrow at the helmsman, hoping to provoke the man speaking with him.

The human merchantman never stood a chance at outrunning the druchii cutter, no matter how hard their crew worked. The corsairs knew this and some smiled to themselves as they made ready.

Caraoc: At first the Corsair-mage was overly interested as acting like part of the crew, having gained some appreciation for them on the voyage. Helpfully one of the crew saw fit to mention this to the mage and he moved off to join the rest of the mercenaries. It would have been a waste to have the mage stuck with tossing hunks of iron. Realising that perhaps the time had come to employ his magic the scald began to sing. Hearing this several of the corsairs shook their heads with wry smiles. A stiff breeze, precisely aimed sprung up behind the cutter and carried it directly into contact with the merchantman. The corsairs quickly made it secure and made ready to board.

Ladry: Coming more immediately to her senses Ladry made straight for the upper deck of the cutter to afford herself a better view of the deck of the human merchantman. She could feel a focusing of magic nearby, though one of the winds she was untrained in and the ship quickened its approach. Pushing distractions from her mind she reached deep within and called upon her own magic, channeling the powerful winds of Aqshy. Her eyes locked onto her target, a tough looking human warrior on the other ship. The winds where blowing unusually strongly and the fireball that leapt from her towards the enemies was spectacular. Spitting and hissing in the wind and ocean spray the fireball crossed the short distance to its target and slammed straight into his chest. He was engulfed almost instantly and magic fire fought with the natural fire it had sparked to burn him. The human fell to his knees desperately trying to pat out the fire but he was only able to utter a brief scream before he collapsed face first onto the deck, the mystical fire still eating at his corpse. His companions backed hurriedly away, shock etched on their features. Whatever they had expected, a fireball certainly wasn't it.

Analya: Likewise choosing the high deck Analya moved up beside Ladry, just not too close because the heat rising off her was uncomfortable. She had her target well chosen, the helmsman. The intent was to get the commanders attention, though, when a fireball has just immolated a comrade an arrow is a small punctuation in the conversation of death. Nevertheless she aimed carefully and let fly. Unlike the others the commander had made sure the helmsman hadn't left his position. The arrow flew true and slammed into the helmsman's lower back. He stiffened and collapsed, knocking off the commander and getting his attention. Happy with her plans success she waved at him. He replied with what she guessed was a human vulgar gesture.

Paithan: Knowing the wisdom in staying back until after the mage has cast her magic Paithan timed his attack accordingly. He was very glad he had when the fireball leapt through the space he would have been and ruined the day of one of the human warriors. It was followed by an arrow, which passed him as his foot found the railing and he leapt. As he did so he could feel the wind swirl about him, aiding in his leap. It was either a damn fine coincidence or magic, either way he reached the other ship with a glut of velocity and turned it into one very nasty swing of his draich just as his feet touched the ground. The Draich entered the shoulder of one of the warriors who was still busy looking at his burning companion and ground through the metal clean half way through his chest. The human was dead before even realising what had happened and with a heave Paithan pulled his draich clear of the corpse as it fell. He was alone on the command deck with three well armed human warriors and their commander.

Searinox: Quite devoid of caution the shade ran and grabbed a rope with which to launch himself onto the other ship, indeed onto the other side of the other ship if he could manage it. Gripping the rope and yelling to anyone who could hear he swung over. A strong wind lent him some speed and he cleared the entire enemy deck, almost overshooting. The spectacle was enough to have some of the humans staring in shock while the Corsairs laughed as they boarded. Unfortunately as he landed he found himself face to face with three human sailors. As the only druchii on this side of the ship he attracted a lot of attention. He managed to slice the throat of one of them as they closed but the other two had time to attack and the shade only just managed to dodge a sword and block a steel pin used in the rigging of the ship (think 2ft steel bar).

Dolan Steelshorn: Bellowing his mirth Dolan tried to copy the leaps of the Corsairs and other mercenaries onto the enemy ship. He two could feel the wind helping him, but he, unlike the corsairs was wearing much heavier armour and his laugh quickly turned into a yell of fright as he found himself going down far faster than forward. His foot caught on the railing of the human merchantman and he found himself making a face-first acquaintance with the ships deck. Luckily for him the other corsairs who had boarded the ship kept the humans from killing him before he could regain his feet. Climbing back onto his feet, perhaps a little more cautious now he surveyed the scene.

General: The Corsairs and the other two mercenaries alongside Caraoc swarmed onto the human ship just behind the mercenaries and engaged the human sailors. The corsairs laid into them, though they seemed to work in pairs with one often moving around behind the humans to knock them out rather then outright kill them. Eight human sailors where down, two dead and six unconscious. While two of the human warriors where dead on the command deck.

Caraoc: Spell successful. On the deck now with a decent bit of space around you.
Ladry: Spell very successful. Still active on the corpse and the deck around it is beginning to smoke.
Analya: Helmsman dead, commander very much wanting your head.
Paithan: Facing three armed humans and their commander. Burning corpse ahead of you so the humans are split into two groups by it.
Searinox: Excellent tarzan swing though you are now alone on that side of the human ship facing two armed sailors.
Dolan: I warned you not to God-mod. Next time will be more than a stumble.

Slam! Dolan's head made a crunching down as he crashing into the deck of the other ship and very well might have left a Dolan shaped imprint in the woodwork. He slowly recovered from his initial daze as the corsairs swarmed around him. Thankfully, he wasn't attacked while prostrate upon the ship. With a laugh, he evaluated his good luck.

Mid the gap lads!, he chuckled aloud.

Recovered he took in what he saw. Fire and wind blew, the mages doing their queer work. Rapidly the corsairs went to effect in capturing and subduing the sailors. He saw the old draich wielder facing a number of foes. He shook his head gently at the elf's lack of armour.

Here fellow! Strike from behind my shield!

Dolan will attempt to team up with Paithan and act as protection for him so he might swing his draich freely. If sailors get in the way, he will try to bluntly (shield bash, punch etc) try move through them to get to his target

The spray of gore covering paithan from that first kill felt sweet against his skin, its been a long time since he has felt the thrill of battle and the kill had been as easy as breathing, easier perhaps. turning to the scene before him the gore spattered draich weilder bellows a challenge in the druhir tongue knowing none on the deck will understand the cry to Khaine for strength, blood, blood and death Khaine!!!! moving forward he ignores the 2 warriors to one side and concentrates on the commander and his colleague, a series of vicious hard overhand strikes coming from the draich swung in a downward arc high above his head, the first aimed at the warrior to try and force him back with the intent of then stepping to the outside putting the commander between the warrior and himself so help would have to come around his own man allowing paithan to then concentrate his next flurry at the commander

paithan after killing the first man has moved towards the pair containing the commander, he has attempted to force the warrior onto the back foot and then move himself laterally so he can place the commander between the helping warrior and paithan so all of his attacks can be concentrated onto the commander. (see below diagram)

o x paithan moves right after forcing h back

h o x paithan finishes in this position, attacks commander from the right having positioned the commander between him and the warrior preventing the warrior helping

With the help of the wind Searinox was able to clear the entire deck of the ship, yet half way through his swing he realized he was making to much momentum and if he didn't do something fast he'd overshoot and land in the water. So the moment he found a clear spot to land he let go of the rope.

Landing right in between three of the sailors Searinox slided further along the wet deck and was able to stop himselves against the railing of the ship. Too close you fool! he cursed in himself.
Quickly pushing himself of the railing he spun around and toke in the situation, surrounded by three of the sailors he was not in an advantage position. But if there ever was a moment to show what he was made of it would be now.

As the sailors made ready to attack Searinox, he didn't waste any more time cursing himself and went for the first move. Launching himself forward he was able to slit one of the sailors throats in one clean motion. As the sailor let out one bloody gasp for air his lifeless body collapsed on the deck. Yet Searinox could not revel in his clean kill as another sailor brought down his sword on Searinox. Quickly turning on his axis he was barely able to dodge the blade be a hairs length, deciding he could better use this momentum to bypass this sailor and go for the third one he regained his footing and faced towards the last sailor who swung a steel bar at him. Moving his sword to intercept the incomming blow he was succesful in blocking it. Now lets put this guy down he tough to himself with a small grin on his face as he pulled one if his throwing daggers out of the sheath on his chest

Searinox will attempt to use his momentum to deflect the steel bar and have the sailor lose his footing, then using his agility to slip behind his back and force him down onto the deck. Hopefully knocking the sailor unconsious a Searinox slams his face into the deck.
If succesful in knocking the steel bar sailor unconsious (or atleast out of commision for abit of time) he will try to throw one of his daggers into one of the legs of the sword sailor to make sure he won't cause much trouble. He will then make his way towards the helm.
If not succesful in putting the steel bar sailor out of commision he will go straight for the helm, hoping the sailors will take long enough to recover so he can get some distance between them.

Her arrow flew graceful and accurate, the helmsman fell to the ground and his captain looked angrily at her. There was no one able to fulfill orders left, no one was even trying to give some. Now the ship truly was left at their mercy.

But then an unexpected blast of wind came, knocking the ships together. Suddenly everyone was jumping on the other ship's board while Analya remained a good distance behind them. The khainite was even already trying to fight the captain - the best match this lousy ship could offer. She had to move fast.

Analya unsheathed her sword and ran towards the bridge, leaping over barrels, circling around sailors. The captain had looked really furious, he should decide to ignore Paithan altogether and run towards her. If not, she would have to content herself with the other armoured men and that would be a shame.

She raced forwards and judged her opponent. He would expect her being a decent swordsman and she could not wait for an opening. There were others around who could steal her glory. She would have to show this man something he would never see coming.

If the captain does not fight Paithan, she is going to intercept him; otherwise, she engages the two armoured lads further away from the khainite. She steps to her opponents (whoever that is) left hand side showing him her back, circles around and places a kick right into his face (reverse roundhorse kick / Japanese: ushiro mawashi geri / Korean: bandae dollyo chagi). Then there follows a strike with the hilt of her sword, aimed at the face again. I just hope the actions are judged by their coolness factor and not by how much they make sense.

[EDIT and OOC: The aim is to knock the man down, not kill him, the strikes are not going to be at full force.]

The war song had been effective in calling the air genies to the help, or so it seemed. 8)
Most of the mercenaries had been able to make their way, with more or less ease, to the human ship's bridge.
The wind gust seemed to have helped, especially the bulky Dolan who otherwise might have fallen between the ships. :o_O:

The fire mage took advantage of the strong winds to create a massive fireball. One human was turned to ashes, to his comrades' astonishment.
However, parts of the ship took fire too. :burns: Not necessarily the best thing, as desperate humans would perform desperate defence.
Also, the destruction of the human ship should not be considered before the hold was investigated.
The wind better stopped immediately and not tease the flames to jump onto the sails and set them afire.

Caraoc took a glance on the ongoing assault.
It seemed that the corsairs attacked cleverly as teams, while the group of mercenaries took initiatives as individuals; it was a good thing that they were not shy to go into melee and help each other.
Only one shade seemed very isolated and would probably need some help.
Caraoc also noticed that the corsair's goal was, appropriately, to get as many able slaves as possible, while the mercenaries seemed only interested by kills and destructions.
This was something that would probably require some fine-tuning with the captain.

Overall, Dolan was surrounded by friendly corsairs and need no immediate help.
Paithan was facing the most armoured humans including the leader, presumably the best fighter. Analya was rushing to help him but that might be not enough.
In that area, nobody would be in a position to take care of the fire, and fire was at all time the sailor's worst enemy, as the seasoned corsair knew too well.
Searinox was left alone and would probably be soon in a bad position.

-=-=-

Caraoc yelled at Ladry, over the battle turmoil: "Ladry! Help Paithan and Analya, but don't set the ship blazing! I will try to help Searinox".

Noting that the wind and the Azyr energy gathered had conveniently pushed a dark cloud over the two ships, the singing pilot anticipated in his mind that there was a predictable risk of thunder falling onto a mast.
And predicting the weather was where he was at his best.
He imagined a thunderbolt hitting a yard over the battle, a sail falling over a group of sailors around Searinox and entrapping them.
That would signal the start of a rainfall that would conveniently stop the brazier from spreading to the ship.

The scald changed his tune and started singing a song of thunder, with a high pitched voice, as his body whirlwinded Azyr energy towards the clouds:

"... Then I came and told'em and showed'em to fight through the rain
Fight through the rain, to fight through the rain

I make thunderbolt, I watch the yard break
Around thy guarded Searinox
This ain't no mistake, it makes the masts quake

You feel like thunder in the sky
Like thunder thunder thunder, oh oh
Thunder thunder thunder
Like thunder thunder thunder, o oh oh
You feel like thunder in the sky"

1. Stopping the magic wind.
2. Setting a thunderbolt, aimed at the rigging over Searinox and the sailors he faces (ideally the falling sail would trap them all),
3. followed by rain (ideally it would stop the fire, but not be too heavy for Ladry to use fire at short range).
4. Next intention (or alternative if spell fails) is to jump to the human ship towards Searinox, and to shoot with repeater anyone still wishing to resist the Druchii.

((OOC; apologies for the late reply, yesterday was my GFs birthday so I wasnt really at the computer :) ))

Ladry screams with a mix of pain and delight as the flame of life within her helpless victim was overwhelmed and extinguished by the searing hunger of her magic. Pausing for a moment, she grips the railing with both hands as the hulls of the two ships slam together with impressive force. Regaining her balance, a cruel smile plays in her face as she sees the feeble humans barely able to maintain their composure. The only other female aboard the ship, Analya, had felled the helmsman with an arrow in his back and had now joined in the charge.

Upon hearing Caraocs shouts, she swiftly takes stock of the situaton. Corsairs seemed to be doing fine on their own, but her three comrades on the bridge was facing the only actual ablebodied human warriors. If any measure of power balance is to exist between corsairs and mercenaries after the raid, I cannot afford to lose my allies, even if they are reckless she reasoned. The deck was too crowded now for direct means of combat, but she remembered reading a passage of text once, of a more subtle way. Reaching into the winds of magic raging around the two ships, she focuses her attention on her three comrades on the deck. Paithan, Dolan and Analya where all three close enough together for a minimal effort to be efficient enough. Raging fires, protect my fellows, direct all harm back at the striker! she mumbles, as she attempts to conjure a shield of fire around her three allies.

Ladry holds her position, and attempts to aid Paithan, Dolan and Analya with her magic, without drawing too much power from the winds of magic.

Dolan: After picking himself up off the deck he laughed to himself. It certainly looked bigger while he was over it than it had while firmly on the deck of the druchii cutter. Casting around for a feel of the situation he realised that one of the other mercenaries was somewhat outnumbered on the deck above him. Deciding to help him Dolan quickly set off over the deck only to have a pair of sailors interpose themselves between himself and his objective.

Having already decided he wasn't going to be having any of that he set his shoulder behind his shield and charged the pair of them. The first was clearly shocked at the charge for he hadn't even time to swing his weapon before the edge of the druchii's shield crunched into his teeth and knocked him out cold. The second reacted slightly better but was still sent flying to be kicked senseless by a corsair whose feet he landed at. Taking the steps two at a time Dolan reached the second deck to see the combat already begun.

Paithan: After a rather spectacular entrance to the command deck of the human merchantman Paithan was feeling very confident. His foes where split by the burning corpse of their comrade which effectively reduced the odds against him, at least for the moment.

Raising the draich above his head he engaged the first soldier, hoping to force him back. The human wisely leapt back out of the way of the descending draich however Paithan had not counted on the commander counterattacking in that moment of over extension. Only his elven speed saved him as he threw himself backwards and the sword passed before his eyes. By the time he had regained his balance the soldier was back level with his commander and together they launched a coordinated attack on the elf. It was clear these two warriors where well used to fighting alongside one another and though neither could match an elfs speed, together they pushed Paithan onto the defensive.

Searinox: Judging the path of the incoming blow Searinox deftly slid the iron bar to the side using his blade and quickly moved to the overextended sailors side. As the sailor struggled to regain his balance, something the shade was most certainly not helping him do, Searinox struck him hard on the back causing him to fall forward right into the shades rising boot. With a solid jarring sensation the sailor was out of the fight, and likely his sense for the next several minutes.

With a practiced move he pulled a throwing knife free and flung it at the leg of the second sailor. The blade flew true and sank deeply into the sailors thigh. His face hardly seemed to flicker save for a tightening of the skin around his eyes. With a snarl of something in the human tongue he pulled the knife out of his leg and advanced on the shade, a slight limp marring his stride but now armed with both sword and knife.

Analya: Pleased with her successful plan she soon realised she'd have to get onto the other ship if she wanted to actually do any real fighting. As she landed she saw Paithan being pressed hard by the commander and another soldier while the other two circled the burning body. If she let that happen he'd be cut to pieces, so resigning to fight lesser opponents she ran towards them. Closing with great speed she skips left and begins to turn. A moment later bright sparks flash before her eyes and she finds herself tumbling clear across the deck. With her back to him the human had simply slammed his left fist into the back of her head sending her across the deck on her face.

Jumping to her feet she tried to shake her eyes free of stars while blocking a sword stroke. Humans may be slower than elves but they carried significantly more bulk and turning her back to one was perhaps not the best idea she ever had. By the time her vision cleared enough to do any more than just defend herself she could see both humans working together to force her back towards the ships railing.

Caraoc: Pleased with his work, but understanding that he had better not fan flames the mage cut the spell causing the wind. The sudden lack of breeze caused the sails of both ships to twist to follow the natural breeze with a loud snapping sound.

Looking into the sky he saw what he hoped to see, several darkened clouds caused by his previous manipulation. Not nearly so dense as a real storm cloud but still holding enough potential. Switching his eyes to the mast he picked out the best place to strike to cause the desired effect. It was a complex calculation as he was not familiar with the layout of the rigging on the human ship but taking his best guess he began his spell. Above his head the cloud convulsed and a blinding spear of lightning leapt from them to strike the yardarm exactly where he had aimed. The moisture in the large beam flashed instantly to steam within five feet of the point of impact causing it to explode in a cloud of splinters. Below on the deck druchii and human alike cursed as the splinters peppered them. Due to their sea dragon cloaks the corsairs escaped with only minor injuries, Searinox included though he could feel a few splinters embedded in his scalp which he'd have to fish out later.

The yardarm, or what was left of it never reached the deck, becoming tangled in its own rigging and swinging slowly to knock against the mast. The strain of the spell and the unintended destruction prevented him from thinking clearly enough to attempt to cast another so soon and with his limbs so shaky had no other choice but to hold onto the ship railing and take a few deep breaths.

Ladry: Reaching once again into the winds of magic she resolves to aid her companions in a more direct manner. At first she thought them too far apart to cover with the defending flames but as she cast the winds of magic blew strong and sheets of almost transparent flame sprung up around all three of her companions on the command deck of the merchantman. Happily she had cast the spell with enough finesse that her companions could feel no heat, though their blades warmed noticeably when they passed through the flames. All four human warriors back away as the flames began but seeing the druchii within them seemingly unaffected the set the feet and with grim expressions waited to fight.

The explosion of the yardarm has demorilised most of the human crew, or distracted them enough for the corsairs to knock them senseless. The exceptions are the warriors on the command deck who don't seem likely to give up any time soon and the wounded sailor in.front of Searinox. Both he and Searinox have acquired a number of small and irritating splinters though neither was seriously injured by them. Dolan, Paithan and Analya are on the command deck bathed in flames which caused the four remaining warriors to back away. Caraoc is very tired after casting two large spells one after another, Ladry, though less tired is still feeling the strain. You guys keep getting very high rolls for your magic, have you tampered with my dice? The yardarm and burned soldier are smoldering but no naked flames at this point are springing up around them. However the decking around the flame shields is smoking ominously.

Spitting a curse paithan takes a step back using the length of the draich to keep the co ordinated pair of humans at bay. Defensive fighting is not a strong point of the khainite and these subtle thrusts soon turn to low sweeps abd upswings trying to injure legs and exposed arms on both men while keeping the draich between his body and their weapons. The gust steps up and paithan sees the flames engulf the three druchii on the deck and his eyes open wide he steps back fearing he will burn himself screaming out against the magical ring not knowing who cast it someone finish these men and we are done looking forwards and seeing the men retreating paithan takes a deep breath but cannot restrain himself from a foe falling back from him. With a bellow that isnt even words paithan swings the draich in one long overhand swing at the retreating captain exposing his head and hands close to the flames around him but using thr length of the draich so he doesn't have to lunge throigh the flames.

after his inital failed attack paithan is using a series of thrusts and sweeps at exposed limbs to try and keep the pair from overwhelming him. As the flames come up paithan is initially shocked then as hw sees the humans fall back he gets as close to the flames as he can without being in them and swings the draich through the flames at the captain who is falling back

Satisfied with her spells work, Ladry again pauses her incantations to take stock of the situation. The main deck was a mess of beaten down humans, and the elven raiders seemed to have everything under control down there. The command deck was a different story though; a dead helmsman and warrior, noone at the wheel of the human ship, and a regular 4 on 3 situation going on. She could feel the winds of magic raging strongly, and she dared not tap into them again a third time in such a short period of time. The fatigue is setting in, the risk is too great, she thought to herself. Her fellow mercenaries on the command deck had been given a brief moment to regroup as the humans had retreated from her burning shield, and so she decided on a very different course of action. So many humans are pathetic weaklings, they will not fight to the death, she mused to herself.

With as much authority in her voice as possible, she bellowed at the human captain. Look to the deck! Your ship is lost. Surrender now, or you will be burned to cinders, and your men tortured to their deaths!

Ladry attempts to end the engagement by threatening the captain, threatening to torture his men.

Through violent winds and storm, Caraoc had sung epic tales of combat and victory.
Only a sudden thunderbolt exploding the mast above the melee was loud enough to cover the scald's tone.
Now his voice was becoming exhausted and his song became hardly audible.

The Astromancer's spell was aimed correctly, but the effect had been slightly different of what the Azyr mage had hoped for.
As it turned out, the humans' morale fell much lower than the yardarm, and the corsairs took a decisive advantage over the human sailors.
However, the mercenaries were still in a serious position on the upper deck, where Dolan was joining Paithan and Analya.
Caraoc felt the heat of Aqshy risen by Ladry, concentrating around them three. They were in the midst of the combat, but they benefitted now from a great arcane protection.
Searinox was facing only one sailor, but that one was still willing to fight, and the help Caraoc tried to provide did not make the desired effect. He would probably benefit most from any help.

More rain could hamper Ladry's fire shield. Better cease that. The scald had no more inspiration for singing anyway. Now, he only had to join the already victorious side. He decided to go towards Searinox.
Carefully, after recovering his breath, he jumped on the human ship, and rose his handbow. The humans around were subdued by the other corsairs, no need to destroy the future two-legged cargo. Caraoc progressed towards Searinox, decided to shoot down any remaining resistance.

Ceasing the magic rain. Joining the fight, helping Searinox with repeater handbow.

Swinging around the sailor after he deflected the iron bar, Searinox placed his left hand on the sailors back to push him down and then forced his knee up. Hitting the sailor below his ribcage Searinox was able to knock the brwath out of the sailor and out of commission for the time beeing.
One down, one to go he tought to himself as he turned face the remainig sailor.
With one fluid motion Searinox pulled out the throwing knife on his chest and threw it towards the sailors leg, hoping it would put him out of commission aswell so he could help the more important fight at the helm. It landed right where Searinox wanted it, the blade sank deep into the sailors thigh. What didn't go as Searinox wanted was the sailors reaction. Instead of falling to the deck in pain like most of the weaker humans would. The sailor hardly flinched as the blade buried itself in his thigh, he the even pulled it out as a means of an additional weapon to take Searinox out.
That did not go as planned he thought to himself with a slight look of suprise on his face at the humans tenacity.

At that moment a bolt of lightning hit the yardarm, shattering it to pieces and bombarding the deck below with shrapnel. Out of reflex Searinox pulled his seadragon cloak tight around himself, though he was able to cover most of his body from the shrapnel he wasn't fast enough to cover his head. This resulted in several wooden splinters to embed themselves in his scalp.
where the hell did that come from! Searinox muttered as he waved the cloak of of himself. His ears ringing from the blast he made a quick scan of the deck and noticed that most of the sailors had completely lost their moral. Quickly focusing his attention on his original opponent Searinox had hoped that the sailor would be in the same state as his fellow humans.
Unfortunatly for Searinox the sailors morale was hardly affected. With a few wooden splinters sticking out of the sailor he made his way to Searinox, and though he was limping from the dagger wound in his thigh, he was now armed with the dagger and more determent then ever to take Searinox out.

You tenacious human beeing! Searinox yelled as he readied his sword I'll make you regret not dropping to the ground! he then charged the sailor in the hope of finishing him off quickly. Using his agility Searinox dashed side to side as he advanced in the hope of finding an opening in the sailors defences to render him harmless, unleashing a flurry of attacks as he did.

getting caught up in his own fight Searinox is determent to take the stubborn sailor out, at first he will attempt to disarm the sailor, hoping that the loss of his own sword would be enough prussuasion for the human to accept his miserable future. If this fails he will attempt a more literal form of disarming and retake his knife in the process.

She got rusty during the uneventful weeks, and slow. The soldier should have been heavily bleeding by now, wondering where the hit had come from – and instead it was she who fell to the ground. She deflected all subsequent blows aimed at her of course and stood up quickly again, but for a moment, she almost was in trouble.

The two swordsmen attacked her in good cooperation, forcing her to make a few steps backwards as her head was still hurting a bit. Then in a sudden flash of light, a wall of fire appeared before her and on other places of the deck. The mage was being busy obviously.

It seemed that maybe she was not that rusty after all but rather the humans were that good. Quick, disciplined, not frightened by fire, they were surely some sort of elite bodyguards. This would be a pleasant surprise. What more, the flames seemed to follow her movement. Two good swordsmen as opponents and a magical fire at her disposal, what more to wish?

Analya stepped to the right, circling around the two humans, and the flames followed her. She lept forward with her sword in a defensive position, far enough to bring the fire in touch with the nearer swordsman. Will he fall back or counterattack desperately? Will he provide an opening doing so? Analya was ready to dance with them until their feet would get burned, their weapon too hot to wield or until they would allow a swift and precise strike which would knock them unconscious; ready to press forward and dodge and thwart any attempt at cooperation between the two men; circle on the deck and seek a position where she could score a cheap blow into someone's back or where she would provide this kind of opportunity for some other mercenary.

The men would do a mistake sooner or later and she will be there to exploit it.

Analya is in constant motion and tries to (in this order of importance)
- circle around her opponents so that they can only rarely attack both at the same time
- get them into flames as often as possible
- lead them so that they offer their backs to Dolan (or anyone else)
- score a cheap shot that would unbalance one of the men Paithan is fighting

Dolan moved toward the fighting above the deck. The winds began to die down and the sudden crack of the sail changing to a new wind paralleled the crashes of the ongoing fighting. A sailor stepped to block his way but he was having none of that. He lowered his shoulder into his shield and barged along into him. He laughed as the sailor caught a mouthful of shield and fell over unconcsious.

HA! There's your dinner on a plate son!, he taunted the fallen sailor.

Another moved to intercept but was caught as well, knocked aside and delt with by one of the corsairs. He nodded his thanks in passing. Once he stepped upon the fighting on the upper deck, he yelled out his presense. Here, now the fighting REALLY starts!, he moved to engage the closest combantant.

I'd say, you really shouldn't bother. But then, where's the fun in that, eh?. Shield up, he struck out and looked to his compatriots. Offering aid where he could.

Dolan will attack and support those on the deck as needs must, aiming to be attract the blunt of the blows so the others can take care of them safely.

Paithan: The counter attack had been unexpected, that much was certain however the timely intervention of a curtain of flames meant that the two humans he was dealing with were very cautious in their attacks. Using the flames to his advantage he pushes forwards towards the Commander and the soldier aiding him. As the draich passes through the flame he can feel the heat transferring up the length of the blade though for now it's only a warmth in his hand. Rather then continue to retreat though the Commander pushes forward eyes narrowed against the heat and engages the draich as it sweeps towards him. At the same time the second human lunges forward and scores a shallow though painful wound on Paithans left forearm. Both human and druchii disengage though it's clear the Commander is a skilled warrior and his soldiers don't lack for courage.

Dolan: Quickly deciding to aid the nearest druchii he could Dolan moved up alongside Paithan. The heat of the twin fire cloaks causing small flames to spring to life on the deck.

Ladry: Ladry began to shout threats at the captain from her position on the deck of the cutter. Whether it was the language, her accent or the commanders single mindedness she could not say but her words had no noticeable effect.

Dolan & Paithan: It was now two on two and the human Commander was clearly approaching the end of his patience. Now facing even odds, if two flame wreathed druchii could be considered even, the commander decided to go down with honor. Leaving the other soldier to deal with Dolan the commander threw himself forward into the flame shield. Needless to say this was not what Paithan expected and as the burning human cleared the flames with a snarl etched into his burned features Paithan struck out with his draich, running to commander through. At the same time the commanders sword thrust straight through the khainites left shoulder. Paithan could read the pure hatred in the commanders eyes before he succumbed to his wounds and collapsed dead. Only then did he feel the pain as the collapsing weight twisted the blade in his flesh and dragged him down to his knees.

Dolan was equally surprised by a similar suicidal charge by the remaining soldier however he was far more heavily armoured than the khainite and with a mirthful bellow backhanded the soldier back through the flames with his shield. As the soldier passed through the flames for a second time he could not contain the scream of pain though he somehow remained on his feet. Swinging his sword, Dolan quickly ended that.

Analya: Recognizing the flame shield for what it was Analya was determined to put it to good use, but first she had to make sure the human soldiers couldn't attack her as a team. She began to circle them, hoping to prevent them from forming a unified front. Unfortunately on the limited deck space and with their training this proved almost impossible to achieve though the feints forward did prevent them from launching a coordinated attack and the curses out of them definitely showed that they were getting the worse of the flames. The tactic proved effective and both soldiers soon sported numerous minor burns and their attacks where becoming fewer and fewer as they had to wait for their swords to cool, a problem Analya didn't have as she was content to stay on this side of the flames. At yet another attack she saw her opening and her blade licked across the throat of one of the soldiers, sending him crashing to the deck futilely trying to stop the blood. Realising he was alone the last soldier followed his commanders lead and leapt through the flames, content to at least take one druchii raider with him. Swaying to the side Analya dodged his half blind attack and hopped one careful step backwards, pulling back the cloak of flames to engulf him. As he burned she finished him with a swift thrust to the heart.

Searinox: This human was tough, that much was certain and though Searinox wasn't exactly skilled at reading the ages of lesser races he could see that this one was no youngster. Darting forward the shade made use of his greater speed and forced the human to pivot on his injured leg in order to keep up. This gave him the opening he needed to get inside the sailors range and attack. His first attack achieved little more than a graze and in return he got an elbow in the face, though the blow lacked real force and it was clear the sailor was suffering from his wounds and the pace of combat. The second blow go through and sliced off a couple of fingers, causing the sailor to drop his sword. Searinox stepped back for a moment to see if the human would give up now. Spitting a curse in its barbaric tongue the human drove Searinox's own throwing knife deep into his own chest and fell to the floor dead. Clearly having decided there was no longer a realistic chance of taking the shade the human had instead decided to deny him a slave.

Caraoc: Readying his crossbow the mage tried to draw a bead on the last remaining combat between the shade and the sailor but they were both moving too fast for a clear shot and when they did separate the human took his own life. A rather unusual occurrence and one which denied him the chance to use his bow.

Fighting is over. The living human crew are either out cold or otherwise restrained by the corsairs. Caraoc is still feeling the strain from his spells and is standing there with his bow ready. Searinox has seen off the last sailor and has plenty of small splinters in his scalp and will likely have something of a black eye tomorrow. Dolan is uninjured though still wreathed in flames. Analya is likewise still wreathed in flames and will probably have a nice big lump on the back of her head. Ladry is still holding her flame cloak spell going, is uninjured but a bit tired. Paithan has a sword through his left shoulder and a small cut on his left forearm, the flames still cloak him. The deck of the ship is breaking out into natural flame due to the flame cloaks and if it isn't dealt with soon the whole ship could catch.

Victory, of course. Ladry was not at all surprised to see the human rabble lose their nerve in the face of a fiery menace, and a chillfull delight washed over her as the humans caught fire, one by one, and were cut down by her comrades. As the final soldier was impaled by Analya, she stopped channeling her spell, and instead focused her mind upon dousing the flames that had taken hold of the deck. This was unfamiliar ground to her; it was not often she had the need to extinguish the flames she had conjured forth, but at least these where natural flames and not arcane ones.

Corsairs! Douse the main deck before the flames spread! A few buckets of water ought to do it! she bellowed at the now idle corsairs. She shot a quick glance across the other mercenaries. None seem fatally injured... And if they where, a swift dagger across the throat would almost be a mercy. Paithan was starting to bleed violently from the shoulder, but he would have to wait. No sense letting the plunder burn.

Ladry tries to calm the flames, giving the others time to toss water on.

The fight was over before Caraoc had any chance to score a hit with his handbow.
He looked around. Paithan was wounded, the other mercenaries were all either bruised or exhausted, except Dolan.
The scald realized that the crew and corsairs deliberately had left them to fight alone the toughest humans.
Oddly, and contrary to the finest tradition, their captain himself had not been seen during the battle. Where had he been?
The scald looked up, and there he was, still onboard the "Hungry Gaze". Their captain had been watching them all the time.
This fight was just a test. realized the pilot. Let's end the test with satisfaction rather than resent.

As the captain looked at him, Caraoc waved happily and shouted: Cap'n, the ship is yours! Hurray for the Cap'n! No fire will rob our booty.".
He felt Ladry straining her remaining arcane forces to tame the flames she had contributed to create.
To extinguish the fire was the most urgent task indeed, as many sailor understood naturally. The Astromancer could maybe speed up the process.
After all, the dark cloud which had previously released a thunderbolt was still there. Little energy would be needed to get a soft rain. Especially with Caraoc's high pitched tone.

"Sir, this song is dedicated to your victory, and to my friend Paithan who has been wounded!"
The scald took his last forces to intone a song, mixing a call for the rain he wished to resume, and a tale of the wounded warrior of fire.

"It's raining again. Oh now, the fight's had an end.
Oh now, it's raining again And you know it's hard to be wounded.
Oh now, it's raining again Too bad I could losing a friend.
Oh now, it's raining again Oh will my heart ever mend.

You're bold enough some people say To read the signs and walk away
It's only time that heals the pain And makes the sun come out again
It's raining again Oh now, the fight had an end.
Oh now, it's raining again Too bad I could losing a friend.
Lalalala lalalaaa...
C'mon you griddle fighter No need to get up tighter
C'mon you griddle fighter And get back up again..."

The last verses were barely whispered. That was the scald's little revenge against the captain who did not fight.
(It's raining, it's pouring) (The old man is snoring)
(He went to bed and bumped his head) (And he couldn't get up in the morning)

Would the Astromancer's riddle become a prediction? Time would tell.

Complimenting openly the captain for his victory.
Trying to trig some rain from the cloud above.

Dashing from side to side towards the sailor Searinox forced him to put weight on his injured leg. As the sailor flinched for nothing more then a second Searinox used this opening to slip into close range and open the attacks. Making a quick upward slash as he came into range, he was only able to graze the sailors back as the sailor let his injured leg bent to dodge the incomming blow. He then quickly turned to counter Searinox, who had by now come so close that what was supposed to be a stab with the throwing knife ended up beeing an elbow in the elves face.
Instead of forcing through the sailors elbow blow Searinox went with its flow, using what little force it had to pivot around his axis and strike a second thim with his own blade at the sailors sword hand, cleanly slicing off enough fingers to force the sailor to drop his sword. As the sword dropped into the wooden deck Searinox jumped back to create abit of range between him and the sailor the elf stood up right and with a smug look on his face he pointed his sword towards the sailor and then slowly lowered it, pointing towards the sailors feet, showing to the sailor that his life was forfeit and that if he would accept his new future he would live.

The sailor would have nothing of it and in a spurt of rage yelled something at the shade which he could not understand and plunged the throwing knife deep into his chest. Coughing up blood the he fell to the deck floor, dead.
Sighing Searinox walked up to the sailors corpse and kicked it onto its back, kneeling next to it he pulled his throwing knife out of the sailors chest and wiped the blood from the blade using the sailors own cloths. Standing up he was reminded of the exploding yardarm by a sharp pain in his scalp. Resheating his knife, he then reached up to his scalp to pull a few of the larger splinters out. "Blasted human taking his own life. Blasted exploding yardarm. Blasted darn splinters." He muttered to himself with each splinter he yanked out.

He then turned towards the deck to see how the other fights where going, with all of the sailors subdued and the warriors at the helm taken out the smaller splinters should have to wait, the next priority was to make sure the ship didn't catch fire, not just yet atleast. "blasted fire mage with lack of controll"

looking for a bucket or any other means to put out the slowly growing fire

Howling in pain as his shoulder is run clean through the rest of the captains miserable life is spent hearing a stream of very loud druchii curses. Including some questioning the birth of his mother. Looming to the corpse paithan struggles to pull his draich free with one hand, it is not a pericing weapon and is rather heavy but eventually he manags by planting his foot firmly on the captains chest and hauling with all his might though this seems to do his injured shoulder no favours and the loud bark of pain signals the folly of recovering his most prized possession while still skewered like a pig. Hauling his draich up he lets the heavy cutting edge fall beheading the captains corpse, though eith paithans lack of control one handed this takes a rather messy and somewhat agonising 4 blows bending he picks the captains head up by the hair and without even a second glance back staggers back towards the cutter stumbling aboard before collapsing into a heap on the friendly ships deck grimacing, the small wound on his arm paithan hasnt even given a second glance, a small would of war and something he is well used to. But the large hole in his shoulder is currently only plugged by the thing that caused it. So sitting starting at the blood soaked head betwen his knees paithan clamps a hand on his wound to staunch the bloodflow as best he can

armour...you need to make armour you stupid fool..if we dont bleed to death. Khaine save your servant his life is not yet fulfilled in your name

Mumbling to himself paithan closes his eyes and rests

paithan horrifically wounded in the shoulder as the fight ends reclaims his draich from the captains corpse and tskes the head as a trophy before staggering back to the cutter bleeding profusely and sitd on the deck trying to calm himself to lower his heart rate and staunch the bleeding by applying pressure around the sword wound

The ensuing fight would not disappoint even the most demanding audiences in famous arenas. Her opponents were boiling with red rage, launching one attack after another through the wall of fire, not caring about all the burns they were suffering. Analya meanwhile was dancing like the flames themselves, swift and elusive, with a light smile and glowing eyes. Soon the humans were at her mercy and she, realizing they would cause only trouble between their burns and determination, ended their lives.

With her last strike all fighting on the board ceased. She looked in the direction of Ladry and the esteemed mister Snakeskin and gave them a sweeping graceful bow, then she added another in the direction of the corsairs down on board. Careful to keep her fire cloak away from anything that could start burning easily, she wiped her sword against the clothes on a dead body, sheathed it and waited for the flames around her to disappear.

“We can smother the fire if we put something inflammable in,”
she remarked to Dolan. “A water barrel, for example. Or a heavy hide.” Having said that, she started looking around, seeking some means to fight the fire. A corsair – the newly recruited one – sang a hymn to celebrate their captain and their wounded comrade. The music was awful, but in the words, a bit of mockery seemed to be lurking. Analya wondered if other corsairs shared the disapproval of this one.

Once the song was over and fire under control she turned her head to Snakeskin.
“Hurrah for the captain, indeed,” she said with a nice smile. “I hope we have passed your test. The crew obviously thinks so given that that they were so frozen in awe that we had to defeat these guys alone. I assume you felt the same.”

She turned away from the captain without waiting for his answer and glanced to the corsairs to see what reaction her words provoked. Then she found a piece of cloth for herself, unsheathed her sword again and begun to cleanse it with great care, seemingly ignoring her surroundings.

Helping with fire (without being overeager), being impertinent.

The draichwielder, tho likely to hold his own two on one, these two were clearly willing to let down their guard to injure him out of spite. He jumped to assist, leaving only the Captain for Paithan to deal with. The sailor had crazy eyes about him and lunged at him, forsaking all defence, and pinged his sword off his armor.

Damnit! Do you know how long that will take to polish out!, he changed his expression to a mirthful laugh and struck out, ending the sailor's efforts, if not life.

He looked about. Much of the fighting had halted with the crew either dispatched or disabled. He looked back at the draichwielder. His hand clutched a wound and the other the Captain's head. Heh, seems you faired better. But what do you think of my shield now?, he said with a friendly wink. Get yourself back to the reaver and have that mended to. It'll be sore for a while but you'll live.

Fires smoked about, the ship would soon be ablaze if things weren't done quickly. However, it was very much likely the corsairs would fire the ship anyways once they'd sacked it of personnel and booty. He noticed the fire shimmer persisted about him and smoke the wood underneath him. He turned back to the fire mage in the distance and shouted Pyromancer! I appreciate the aid and would like to make a jest about being smoking or something but... I think we can let go of this cantrip now yeah?.

He looked about to help the corsairs with their activity, putting out fires and searching the sailors and quarters as time permitted. Quick about it Dolan, don't want to be caught on the ship if it actually fires. Not much a swimmer you'd make with all this metal.

Some banter with the comrades and will move to help with the fire and the searching of the ship

As the last enemy fell to the deck, either dead or unconscious the corsairs began to tie up their prizes. As most of them where unable to walk they had the few humans capable of moving drag the others across to the cutter and under the deck to be chained below. Several corsairs kept a close eye and naked blade ready in case the humans second guessed their defeat.

Meanwhile the mercenaries had realised the problem of open flame on a wooden ship. Perhaps a touch belatedly but with time enough to prevent a serious fire breaking out. From her high position Ladry considered how to damp down the flames and prevent the smoldering sections from springing alight. Pyromancy was usually one of the most straight forward of energy manipulations. Aetheric winds to produce flames, themselves almost pure energy. Smiling to herself as she realised she should simply cast a spell to invert the energy she began to cast, making certain she wasn't the receptical of the returning energy. She couldn't do the whole ship at once, so she concentrated on the mast first as the others could deal with those on the deck. As the spell was released the the embers in the mast and rigging instantly guttered and died while a dozen feet behind the ship a area of water flashed to steam from the transferred heat. Happily the act of casting the spell also dispelled the flame cloak so no more fires would be springing up.

On the deck of the ship the other mage had a similar idea as to stopping the flames with magic. His plan though was to call on the storm clouds he'd helped form earlier before they disappeared and douse the ship in rain. Even as he began he could feel the spell seemingly sluggish to form. A little thickening of the cloud unleashed a brief downpour on one small area of deck before stopping as suddenly as it had started. Caraoc's head tolled like a bell as the spell dissolved and he realised that the weakness he felt after the lightening bolt was making it damn clear that trying a third large spell in a row was beyond his talents.

Oblivious to the two mages the others set to putting out the flames themselves using buckets lining the sides of the ship, clearly placed there by the crew in case the druchii had tried to fire their sails. Analya's comment did not go unanswered though and the captains head stuck over the railing as they fought the flames. He was leaning casually on the railing.
"To my eyes more than half of the druchii on that ship where my crew. Besides pretty, this is how you make profit on a corsair ship. You fight." he laughed as he pulled he head back over and began to shout orders.

On the deck of the cutter Paithan was in a sorry state, sitting on the wood and with a sword sticking out of him. Having finished the more immediate duties one of the corsairs walked over. Hunkering down beside him he pushed paithans hands out of the way to get a good look at the wound. Without any warning he grasped the blade and pulled it cleanly out before setting to cleaning the wound with some sort of thick liquid from a flask. As he took up a needle to sew it closed he spoke to the khainite. "The liquid will prevent infection and speed healing. Try not to tear the stitches before then." With his job finished he turned and walked away, jumping onto the human ship to begin searching it.

You guys can start searching the ship for anything in specific you want. Or you can pick up something on deck that caught your eye (*cough* armour paithan *cough*). Obviously there will also be gold straight up forthcoming and cargo which will be sold later for more money for you guys, but for now it's a quick search for toys.
