Revert to Cold One "Beasthounds"

Post by EWSSteve »

Hey guys,

I was under the impression before that the Druchii Warband switched to slave hounds as there were no models for the Cold One version...

Do you think anyone would object to re-introducing the original stats as per the Dark Elves warband for the Cold Ones?

I'm pretty sure the Cold One model you linked is a horse sized animal in our scale, which would make a cool mount in Mordheim to be sure but a bit too large to herd around as a pack creature. Thats my 2c anyway. A scaled down version would be pretty nifty if it existed to run as a "hound" type animal but that is the problem we have unfortunately.

Although with the right model and paintjob you could make something suitable.

I see your point. I just never saw them as being "hound" sized.

There are some reaper minis that could do the job

I've half a mind to get some of them & run them as slavehounds. I reckon they would look good with a druchii driving them.

There are some velociraptors too

Although they might be a bit big for my tastes they do look a smaller, leaner version of a cold one.

Just browsing some the old threads it appears that Cold One hounds were abandoned because of no Games Workshop models that were suitable. This was when it was hoped to have the warband "officialised" by GW. I don't know if that is still a goal nowadays. A question for Loflar....

Exactly. The warband revision project was started based on agreement between the original project leader and someone from GW. The deal was, that we develop rules allowing play with current GW models, and GW will adopt the rules. However, when the rules were finished, GW was not interested.

And yes, CO hounds were abandoned because of lack of models. There were also other ideas (I remember baby hydras), but dogs were easily available from WH warband, so we have chosen them.

Regarding current goals... The original goal was: update Druchii warband, get it in line with available GW models and current Druchii rules (6th edition, at the time), make it playable. This goal was achieved. We have also updated the Assassin hired sword (and my Shade Scout is quite popular, at least where I play ;-) ).

There were other goals: shade warband, witch elf warband. They were never even started, because there was no one to work on them.

The warband project, as I see it, is finished and comatose. Since we started, my interests moved elsewhere, so while I still play Mordheim regularly, I don't have time for development. If anyone wants to resuscitate it, do that. Just don't count on me. I just occasionally pop here for upkeep and user support ;-)

The Druchii Warband is one hell of a list. Lots of great elements that make a strong and very fun warband, yet weak in the right places. I don't think there's much you could ever do to make it better or MORE balanced than it already is.
