Alternative Sorccerer model?

Post by Chacotic »

Hello! I know threads like this pop up all the time, but the search function isn't very specific if you ask me.

Do any of you know any good alternative models for a DE Sorceress? Or any easy way to convert one from a GW model?

The hag from the cauldron of blood is pretty simple to convert. You can change her goblet for a staff using a spear or banner from DE warriors as the bottom part and an icon of your choice for the top piece (In my case I used a daemonette familiar since my army is CoS).

You can also use Morathi if you cut a witch elf in two and green stuff her body onto the legs.

Like Rork said, a hag should be ok

One of my sorceresses is a 5th Ed Wood Elf. Since DE have such a restricted selection when it comes to character models (except assassins), I freely borrow from other armies.

Anyone else find it kinda interesting that DE will not use gun powder because its unreliable but seem to have no problem using cold ones?

Yeah, the Ice Queen is cool, but that Chaos Star really needs converting...

I myself use a normal Sorceress model, but with a new (and far cooler) staff as the old one broke in the blister. :(

The normal sorceress on foot is very nice, I don't like the staff but it is an easy conversion.
The CoB hag is very nice too, and another easy conversion.
What is really problematic is a nice mounted sorceress!
But if I use a scroll caddy I have a nice 5th edition male sorcerer on foot

My main problem with the current foot sorceress is she is to bloacky. She is essentialy one little pillar of pewter, with no character. They need to make one that looks a lot more dynamic and active. The wood elf mages are great examples of what could be done. That why many people use them as a conversion basis.

The mounted sorceress is terrible. I never even bothered to get one, and whoever decided that a coldone would make a better default mount for her was crazy.

yeah that keeps happening to me too :x but i do think the a bit of work on high elf mages to turn them into dark elves could work :?
hmm i think i see conversion possibilities in the ice queen... ;)

OT:what is the best way to reattach the staff from the sorceress back on?

Heldrak came across a pretty cool model for a DE sorceress a few moths ago: The Ice Witch from WArgods of Aegyptus by Crocodile Games:
Link to CG & Link to thread

€: Hmm, their page seems to be down at the moment, though.

My dear Lord Ruerl, we are druchii, do you think we could resist the temptation to break a law? Even if made by Malekith himself? Naaah, ;)
Obviously is difficult for a male to become an high sorcerer (4th level) but I suppose there are some so rash to study dark magic and become a 1st or 2nd level mage.
And, because as a good elf fears back stabbing he carry some scrolls to protect him from more powerful sorcerers!

In Italian Dark elf book is written that the price to pay to sorceress is very high, so don't you think that some lesser noble prefer to hire cheaper, and more easily blackmailable, male sorcerers?

For these reasons, I continue to field my old male sorcerer!

If you insist. Fluff wise My lord is too loyal to consider breaking said law (which is also mentioned in my DE army book). If i could find the time to get that model i would use it (i've had to use a goblin shaman, an empire wizard and a witch elf hag to fill in for my Sorceress so it won't matter to much)

A beast master should work, take off spearhead and replace it with symbol.
Take off the whip and replacing it with a corsair champion's pointed hand.
Along with some other touches it should look really cool.
Dangerous toys are fun but you could get hurt. ;3

If you want to stay GW, look at the Dark Eldar figures. They are a little bigger but Lilith Hesperax and various Wyches might so the job.

I converted the female Dark Eldar Lord into a Druchii Sorceress. The how-to can be found in one of the Monthlies.
Count them:

I converted the wood elf female spellsinger using a standard staff (with added beastman skull) and a captain's sword from the plastic warrior box. It was a pain filing off all the leaves though!
You need to get out more.

Weak perish so that the strong can live. It is the law of nature. It is the law of the Druchii.

Making a sorceress from one of the hydra's handlers is an easy conversion. Just replace the whip with an empty hand and make the spear look more like a staff. I'll post a pic once I get home.

How about trying one of the new Ice Witch minis from Chris Fitz's Wargods of Hyperboria line (http://www.crocodilegames.com), looks quite the part, just about to start painting a one up myself.

The head of the staff has endured some battle damage. Nevermind that.
