Black Guard/Dreadlord

Post by Godless-mimicry »

Some people may remember me mentioning converting some plastic Black
Guard a while back in the metal vs plastic thread. Well I got my Battalion box
set today and finally got to work. Here is the first Black Guard:

Also, though I'd put up some pictures of my Dreadlord while I was at it. Pics
aren't the greatest, cams not either:

Keep in mind that the pic is terrible and the only light I have is the flash so
highlights will seem much more extreme than they are.

Nice basic converting for the Black Guard. Where did you get the brush for his helmet?

IMO, you're painting of the Dreadlord needs improving. Namely the skin and cloth areas. The skin looks a little blue, like he painted it on, while I personally find the clothwork a little messy. The armour is great, though, with a nice robust look about it.

It's the pics man, trust me, it's much neater than it looks, and the
skin is a lot smoother I can promise you. One thing though, the
skin is meant to be blue.

What I find with the pic is that it is bringing out the highlights way
too much, they are a lot more subtle and blended in the flesh.

Apologies for the pic. And since you asked, the top knot is from the
Chaos Warrior sprue.

Are you trying a drow colour scheme? Cause if you do, NICE! Think I'm going that route for my new dark elf army. The skin might need to be a little more grey than blue but that's just a detail.

I've heard people refer to blue skin as drow scheme before so yes,
otherwise I haven't a clue what drow is? I was more basing them
after the Dunmer of Oblivion.

Well a drow is a dark skinned elf which lives un the underworld. They are a truly cruel and evil race, who worship the Spider queen Lolth. GW didn't like that so they changed it all and made their dark elves pale skinned and raven black hair. The cliche fantasy's got white hair and violet/blue/dark skin.

They are featured in various Dungeon & Dragons settings and they look like this:
