Western elf army: crosbowmen update
Hello,
I have just started a dark elf army, and I'm going to post pictures of things as I do them. So far, I've painted up several characters:
A wizard and an assassin
Mounted battle standard bearer
Hero on a comedy manticore
A cauldron of blood
Cauldron again, this time with a statue of Khaine in his aspect of someone who doesn't look at all like Khorne.

I like the assassin, nice work on that one! And use whatever model you want for your sorceress/sorceror. I know a few people who have used males, and the fluff only states they are forbidden by Malekith, they still exist in number. The cauldron is funny, not very realisitc, but i take it thats the point.

In general he models don't look like they support the DE archtypes.
The BSB looks like a high elf (even to the trade mark silver helm helmet) with a DE shield stuck on.
You can use none DE models but then you really need to paint them in the classic DE colours or the don't look right.
The wizard is nice but it does not really look DE either from the model or it's colour scheme. It looks like a HE or WE in winter scheme more than a DE.

It's true that High Elves are also forbidden by Malekith, and he hasn't managed to get rid of them yet. I think you can use your Sorceror just as is. If I was a Sorceror in Naggaroth, I'd leave the bling at home and carry three days food with me everywhere.
So I think you can keep him.

I see no problem with your models. The world is a big place and personalities vary wildly, so I don't think there's any reason why you can't have a dark elf that dresses fancy or still considers himself a "true" high elf, since, afterall, we really are the rightful inheritors.
I really dig all the mordheim models (sweet use of the pit fighters!), and really, REALLY like seeing that old Quest wardancer!

Many thanks for all the comments!
Maleketh is always forbidding things - he used to hate chariots, I think, but now they are fine. So I can't see any particular reason to care if he doesn't like male wizards at the moment.
Exactly!
Hydra
Dragon, awaiting a rider of some sort
I know, it's supposed to be black fluffwise. But I like red better. I'm going to paint my cold ones red too.

My dragon is blue so don't worry about it. You are free to paint it whatever color there is. There's no rules against now is there?
By the way, where the heck do you get all of these weird miniatures? I don't like the hydra but guess it makes it's place on the battlefield (though beware, the base is not correct size).

Weird miniatures? They are all from games workshop!
It's not the same as the base the new one comes on, but there's no actual rule (that I know of) that requires a chariot base. Monsters of this size aren't even required to have a base.

Actually there's a flat rule that models should be based on the bases they are supplied with - and the Hydra's are supplied with a 50x100 Chariot base now.
Not that many people would complain, just something to bear in mind.

Hm... Sadly they all look as everything but not DE. The heroe's horse would work very well as a chaos one an the standard of COK-SB has a more empire or HE shema. Even if they all look great for themselves (is this really a freehand dragon on the standard? O.o) I can't recognize DEs.
Of course only a subjective view.

I'm not aware of any significant difference between high and dark elves.
Good lord no! It's a decal.
Thanks!

Elves, chaos, same thing.
