My First Complete Dark Elf Unit (part of 500 point army)

Post by Nick155481 »

Hello all

I have started painting again after seeing some of the new dark elf figures, i have never managed to complete a whole unit before so this is my first ever completed unit. :D

Im really pleased i dont think the pictures pic up on any shading on the models. What do you all think i know the colours are different Orange and blue but i think its cool to be different.

Cheers

Nick

Very nice unit mate! The tones are perfect!
I'm not too keen on the basing, but other than that I can't fault them :)

Khalrthi thanks for the comments mate. Yes not to sure on the basis they are just sand highlighted up at the moment. Was thinkin of adding a little games workshop scortched grass. Do you think that would improve them?

Cheers Nick P

You need to display an image (ending with .jpg), not the scrap with current, view and so on.

So: http://s840.photobucket.com/albums/zz32 ... hii007.jpg

It took me a while before I could post my first image in D.net, it's not that obvious! ;)

Ive never been able to work it out, I'm sure one of the mods will point you in the right direction :).

I think you should dry brush the bases with bleached bone, the armour uses alot of grey colours so an off white on the sand would look good. Scorched grass and a few half buried skull or other items would finish it off beautifully :P.

This is only a personal preference, but I'd paint the rim of the bases black instead of brown. But, overall you should be very pleased with yourself.

Here's the trick to photobucket, click on your image (or just use the Album) and click on the box where it says "IMG Code" and press Copy (Ctrl+C) and then Paste it in your paste (Ctrl+V).

Rork edit: And I've cleaned the thread up.

Nice work Nick. The orange and blue actually works really well. You have moved away from the default purple, tried something a bit different, and pulled it off really well. I envy your free hand on the banner, and the shading is great!
Be sure to post some more :)

Hi guys thanks for your comments. Sorry Khalrthi that other unit is not mine. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to improve them. Khalrthi mentioned the bases any other suggestions on what i could so i was thinking a bit of scorched graass or dark green static grass?

I have constucted 5 COK plan to paint the cold ones dark blue going to use orange on the riders tunics and mayb shields.

IMO everything but scorched grass looks cheap. I use Scorched grass on top of a sanded base of Bestial Brown, dry brush of Snake Bite Brown, toped off with a dry brush of a Khaki mix. I think scorched grass would work alright on your Grey bases, but glade or dark green grass would be a heavy contrast from the orange cloak.

I made mine look like they just got off the dark arc, kind of a snowy rocky coast line, I left the base with no turf glued on it then I based it in hawk turqoise, then washed it in green wash, then a blue wash, then highlighted parts of it with hawk turqoise mixed with white, then dabs of white to look like white water, then I glued kitty litter to it, and dabbed a little fake snow on parts of it, hope that helps.

They look great. Perhaps you could add highlighting along the edges of their crossbows? Looking forwrd to your knights!

New Cold Ones

Post by Nick155481 »

Hello gents

I have been working on the next part of my army. Cold One Knights. This is the second unit along with my crossbowmen that have already been completed see earlier.

Im delighted with how this first Cold One turned out. The crossbowmen are the first unit i have ever completed and if i can keep the momentum going on the cold ones they will be my second. :) Please provide some feedback so i can continue to improve.

Cheers

Nick P

Not the every day color scheme :)

You know, orange and blue have always worked, and your sure know how to make it better :)

Great job mate!

Very nice! My first army had cold ones that color--looks great. Of course they were the fat cold ones from the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie and not the new cool looking ones.
