Alternate Witches and Black Guard?

Post by Kirby »

Despite the wonderful discounts floating around the internet, I can't bring myself to invest in these models. The bad part is, I love their fluff and gameplay, so I really want to use them in my lists.

The Black Guard don't look like the elite, cold-hearted walking death they are intended to be. They look like they're standing around waiting for the train.

And the Witches... I like the mostly dynamic poses, but their body proportions drive me nuts when I look at them. Their faces for the most part, well, GW isn't known for their quality of female face sculpts.

Does anyone know of alternatives to these models? I don't play at official GW stores or sponsored tournaments, so nice-looking non-GW models are perfectly fine so long as it's obvious what they are intended to be.

Satyxis Raiders from PP could easily be converted into Witch Elves...
And Executioners can be done with Blighted Swordsman...
Not sure about BG though :( I for one love their models though.

I have found that if you take off the witches heads and replace them with Deomonettes of Slaanesh Heads they look quite good. I also like the black guard. However I use the 5 edition black guard models now. I enjoy there big axes. That is all I have to add.

It's nice to finally find someone who don't like GW BlackGuards models :).

I must addmit that BG models are preaty decend BUT you perfectly describe them, WAITING FOR A TRAIN pose isn't the best they can get. Unfortunately most of the players like them so much on battlefield that decend look is enough for them.

I’m working on converting CHRONOPIA FirstBorn IronGuard to be my BG.

Here is some pics of my master made from Firstborm champion:

I will post some pictures when I finally mede them.

Alternatively you can use Elven Axemen, also from Chronopia:

I have box of them and I want to convert them as Executioners.

About which elves I write in some other post.

Well, I think the BG models are terrific, but "They look like they are waiting for a train" is sheer brilliance.

Well done!
That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?

For my unit of Black Guard i just used normal DE infantry models, the bsb arms and halberds from the empire infantry boxes nd i think they look pretty impressive

I use high elf phoenix guard, the models are a lot better and painted with dark colours you hardly notice the difference.

Waiting for the train, that kills me. I have seen "Deomonettes of Slaanesh" used for witch elves. There are some in this forum and I was thinking about using them but I want my units GW approved as I might someday play in thier events.
No amount of planning can ever replace dumb luck.

Do you have any picture of this? That's an interesting idea really.
I was thinking about using warriors legs, cok torso and head and empire halberd. However it bother me that they would end up having no cloak (for some reason...) It would be expensive but do you think ppl that it would work?

Btw I like bg models but I just can't stand their halberd... Just so freaking big, like they have a whole tree in the hand with some metal on top of it... Beside their body is beautiful

I cut it out from plastic (being more precise it was cover from old electrics switch).
I made 5 more but it was taking too much time. Now I made silicon form from best piece and next ones will be made from Axsson resin (I hope that I use correct word)

Not bad umnet, though, I do miss those tall helms with the chainmail mouthpieces... maybe a headswap if I went this route myself? :P

I think they look quite decent... ecpecialy the helmet. But one thing that stings is the size of those shoulder pads
