Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
It's about 80% done, but I am delighted with how it's turned out so far. This is the first attempt I've made to basecoat white and use washes (normallly I'd be die-hard black undercoat and layering up), and it has turned out much darker (intentionally) that I could have hoped.
Here's a pic of the kit-bash pre-paint, although at the last minute I ended up changing her right hand and the top of the staff.

Wow the shading on that is amazing. The washes really make the shadows around her eyes and muscles really stand out!!

Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
Super cool. I'll second the request for a larger photo maybe another angle or two.
She's dark and beautiful! The dynamic pose combined with the flat affect face on the head you are using adds a lot of character to the figure, ie that she's charging in on a Giant wolf, about to sling some blast of magic destruction...and she's eerily calm about the whole thing.
There is an excellent amount of really inspiring stuff popping up on this site these days!

That's silly! Playin with little statues, pretendin' they're fightin'! Why not just round up a bunch of real goblins and lettem' whack it out?
Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
Thank for the replies guys!
I'm glad it turned out this way because (like an idiot) I shouldn't have trialled this method with one of the character models from the army. Lesson learned; I'll need to pain the gold, red, metals and turquiose (the armour colour of the main army) before I wash anything, but I think the results are great, and will be moving forward and experimenting more with this method.
I'm still painting her at the moment, just refreshed the gold colour, but what kind of angles would people like to see? The only images I have at the moment are larger versions of the ones above, so once I've done some more work I'll post up more
Also, originally I was going to have her eyes closed as if she was even more relaxed, but I thought she looked particularly good with her eyes open the way the shading has worked out!

Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
I'm intending to use the same white base approach for my army (once I get inspired to start painting - gah! Wish I wasn't such a slacker) - so thanks for the insight into your process/experiences!
Can you comment on the parts you used, particularly the legs? I'm really tempted to do a similar conversion. And considering I'm liking Space Wolves (and GKs) of all the 40k armies, shouldn't be hard to scare up a spare wolf or two.

Looks great. How does one go about shading using white as a base and washes? Can you do a quick step by step on what colors you used, particularly on the skin?
Also, a larger pic would be cool, even just of what you originally posted.

Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
Here's a bigger pic
The flesh was really easy: the whole model was basecoated with white and then before anything else it had two layers of badab black applied generously, which made it very dark. Then on the skin it was given two slightly lighter layers of the Rakarth Fleshshade wash.
After that it only had four layers of highlight, which was still quick. The first two were a 50/50 mix of rakarth fleshshade and pallid wychflesh which is really watery, then a 75/25 mix of the same, and the final highlight is watered down pallid wychflesh.
The parts: The torso, legs and staff (banner pole) are all from the WE kit. The head is the female beastmaster one from the hydra. The right hand is from the cauldron kit and the top of the staff is actually two of the bit that gets glued at the top of the executioner cloaks glued back to back with a skull in the middle

Very nice indeed!
I'm currently working on a unit of similar figures as Warlocks, will post them when done

Thanks for the write up. I was trying to achieve a similar skin tone, just a little bit paler/lighter. So I'm going to try the same technique but probably go lighter on the badab black.

She is lovely, especially her eerily calm expression. Great job!

Very nice indeed, I especially like the wolf, could you possibly let me know the colours you used to achieve this effect?
Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
@Amboadine: sure again this is very simple:
white basecoat
2 generous layers of badab black (really have to make sure that the first layer dries before you apply the second)
for the brown shades you add on 2 layers of agrax earthshade after the badab is all dried
the black was highlighted with 50/50 pallid wytchflesh and badab black
the brown was highlighted with 50/50 pallid wytchflesh and agrax earthshade
to pick out the features on the face and paws there was a final highlight of watered pallid wytchflesh by itself:- I will probably add one final highlight of white on to the very raised areas and ears to finish.

I wouldn't mind some pointers about the legs, you said they are WE bits? Did you simply get the "folded" legs from two different WE's and GS:ed them together?

Yep! All of the WE have one leg folded, so the model kept that one, I clipped off the straight leg and replaced it with the folded leg from a different model. I'm going to try and finish painting her tonight so I'll take more pics of these for ya too.

Clever man!
I really like the "banners" as well, I'll probably steal that idea and try it on my Warlocks (Purple banners with magical runes will suit them perfectly!). Just GS flattened with a pin, cured half way, then cut up and attached before letting them cure completely?

Re: Painted: my sorceress on dark steed (wolf) conversion.
Actually I rolled it so thin that it fully cured and then was still fairly easily manipulated, but have done it the same way as you described in the past and that worked perfectly too!
