Amboadine - is your model finished for this month? I think there are a few more things you could do to it to bring it to life. You need a few bits of clump follage on it and some moss growing in between the branches (its just lacking to me at the moment)

Hmmm. Trip to the hobby shop at the weekend potentialy.
I had thought about this indeed but am not sure if I will get there before the end of the month.
I do agree however. There needs to be something to break up the block of brown.
If I manage to get this resolved I will update the photos.

Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
Here is mine for the month bit of a rush job. I will say this model is a pain to paint, there are so many hard to get places on it I almost thought about pulling it apart, painting it then assembling it again.
Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
Any preview, what the challenge for February will be?

Great work Cult and Amboadine!
@ Cult I don't always prefer your painting schemes, but this is one is absolutely stunning!
@ Amboadine, amazing model and job, I think that with some highlights on edges and face could already break the block of brown too large extent. You could also try a technique I recently learned from CMON and used on my Dragon. This is subtle 'striping' the areas of gaps with light brown, yellow or white so the trenches come more to live.

LD What's not to likeCult I don't always prefer your painting schemes,
Any preview, what the challenge for February will be?
I think for next month most people seem happy to work on 5-10 wounds, that way it leaves it fairly open. Same criteria as before, post a before pic so everyone can see what you are working on and then an after shot - so we can see the final job.
Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
More impressive stuff! Great work. I love the fleetmaster model, he seems so over the top in details but somehow manages to bring it together. I have the same problem with some models, I can't paint them if they are fully assembled, I just can't do it, too hard to get at certain places.
If next months is 5-10 wounds, I should be able to squeeze something in for that too!

Ok, sounds good, I think I'll do two Dread Reapers and hope that nobody notices, they only have four wounds

Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
@Sabious: I love the way you have converted that cloak, very nicely done.
@Cultofkhaine: Superb Fleetmaster, but even your painting won't make me to like this model's sculpt
@Amboadine: Good job with that Treeman.
About February challenge - I'll probably join in. 5 wounds is an excellent idea, leaves alot of free choice - good excuse for me to paint 5 Shades.

Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
I'm about to leave my paints behind while I travel abroad for a a couple months. Will anyone have any heartache if I submit a unit of Blackguard before I go as my February goal? If so I'll just PLOG it instead. Full disclosure, I started them shortly after I submitted January's goal and don't have any awesome pics of them covered in primer...

Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
This thread has been a great kick start to the year - good to see some activity happening in P&M.
Now that we are underway what does everyone plan to paint next month. We going to up the requirement this time and aim for 5-10 wounds.

I'm going to repaint my "Batmobile" chariot. It's already had the paint stripped.

Re: NEW YEAR PAINTING CHALLENGE
I am painting the first 10 of my 21 Black Guard. I am deviating slightly away from the "black" by keeping the colors in line with the rest of my army. I justify this with Malekith sending a retinue to Ghrond to "protect" (or spy on...) Morathi while she only agrees to allow them in her city if they swear to wear her colors. I feel this brings the models in the army together and represent their "tit for tat" while letting me feel the models I like. I'll post pics soon!
