[PLOG] Bobba Looba’s Dark Elves

Post by Bobba Looba »

Here I’ll post my progress regarding my DE army.

I’m starting off with a manticore which I just finished. I plan on entering it in a local painting contest. I even tried my hand at some non-metallic metal for the first time.

Comments and criticism is appreciated. There deadline is in a couple of days, so I have some time to fix flaws or make small changes.

That's nice work. I like the metalwork, well done. Good luck with the competition!

I think over all this is a very good piece. Taking it to the next level you might want to consider;

1. Glazing some colours on his skin, and the armour too?
2. Some spot colours could be picked out e.g the cloak scales could be brighter, his head band a more vivid colour, the Manty's eyes a crazy bright choice, the band on the weapon shaft made red instead
3. The rocks could be weathered a little.

These are all small touches that, I think, would elevate an already well done model.

Good luck!

Thanks! That's some great advice.

I actually did many of those things (glazing a little red on the skin and purple on the armour, the scales were highlighted, the manticore's eyes are yellow and the rocks were given some brownish wash), but looking at the pictures again, I now realize, that it just isn't enough. I was way too conservative, too afraid I would ruin it. I'll add more contrast and colour and give an update.

Thanks

It's been a while since the first post, but have some progress to show.

So I did not win the recent painting contest with the Manticore above, but I did come in third.

After the manticore I started on some Dark Elf Long Swords from Raging Heroes which I plan on using as proxies for Executioners. I finished a couple of them, but I plan on making a unit of 15. Below is a picture, but I'll post more of them when they'll be done. I halted the project when the Games Workshop started giving away free Witch Elves last month. My local Games Workshop decided to organise a painting competition with them. Today was the deadline to send in some pictures. Below are the pictures with which I entered. Wish me luck.

It's been a while, but I see the forum is picking up some traction again, with The Old World here. I haven't been on the forum much, but haven't been idle,so I hought I'd post some pics here of my progress so far.

A character/ dreadlord on Cold One with magic weapon.
It's magnetized, so I can swap the rider.

They look great. It may be old models, but I still like the old sculpt. It's a pity they never got a plastic kit, and they have become difficult to come by. I would have loved to get my hands on 20 more!

They are expensive indeed! I found some assassins from that same era that were cheaper per model... I figured I could use those as extra shades. :D
