New Black Dragon model.

Post by Jjfelber »

Ok, so its not really a black dragon, but it looks a hell of a lot better then all of the other WHF Dragons.

The new Winged Nazgûl for LotR. It looks big enough as it is on a 60mm base (LotR models are a bit smaller then WHF models)

What do you all think?

Ooh, I like that idea. I shall definitely be looking into it :).

I was actually considering using Sauron as Malekith if I ever made myself a Chariot for him :).

Looks like you were beat by a few minutes, there's another thread already.

The one in modeling and painting? That one's mine too ;)
I was just way too excited! I absolutely hate GW Dragons, I wish they looked more like D&D Dragons, Big and Stocky, not lanky and unhealthy. This one at least is a nicer model.

Oh, stupid me. XD Well, yeah, I'll mirror what I said in that thread, most of the current GW dragons are pretty stupid-looking. I'll see about perhaps converting this one once it comes out.

Well, supposedly our second wave is relatively soon (in GW years anyway ;) ). So perhaps it would be better if I say, I'll wait till our second wave before I think about a new dragon.

Sure, I've got a HE dragon waiting for some serious work and GW goes and designs a model with the same pose I had in mind.
Now I have to decide if I want to go through with the conversion or wait until that kit comes out.

Bah! Whats the point of going through all that effort of sculpting a freaking dragon if they're not going to release it?

And whats the point of leaking photos? Just to tease us?

Err this is GW... they even hired/got a favour out of GeOrc (most amazing sculptor I've ever seen) to sculpt a Death Hag model for Gamesday's display cases. They even said it was 'coming soon', just for a sick April Fool's joke to get all us gaming nerds hot around the collar for the DE second wave.

When you say 'sick April's Fool joke' do you literally mean they did it for an April Fool's joke, or are you just making a simile? I hope it was a simile.

Typical, I prefer the one on the right... the so called generic one that is less likely to hit production.

I am not fond of the Winged Nazgûl and I really think it can't compare to the GW dragon. It looks more like a wyvern than a dragon anyway.

I hope they release the supposed DE dragon, but the HE dragon makes a cool looking DE dragon too. I don't understand why all the hate for the HE dragon? I have played warhammer since 5th ed and it is by far the best looking dragon GW has ever released, the options are very welcome too.

I agree. I like the generic dragon much more. Looks more dragony. The other one looks...well, I mean its balancing on its tail. What does that tell you? (That it has a really strong tail, obviously

Also, they both have scenic bases. I'm seeing this more and more in GW, do you think eventually they will have scenic bases with monsters, and then rank and file?

EDIT

Could the nazgul work for a manticore? It does look heaps better than the ugly manticore model. Plus, it is plastic which makes assembly, conversion, and gameplay much easier.

Anyways, there are heaps of dragons on the market. In little trinket shops, in stalls at a market, hell even some of the toy dragons could work with a bit of chopping.

I just had the best idea. The lego dragons! Hmm...

I like the look of the Dragon itself for the Dark Elf dragon WiP, but it has no wings yet, which will make a difference one way or the other.

That being said, I doubt that model will ever be released in its present form. Due to the elevated head position, I don't see how you could fit a rider on there in a way that would showcase the rider. I think they would have to re-work the neck and head to make it function with a rider.

Pretty sure the rider will sit his/her saddle right on the depressions over the front legs and rider showcasing be damned! ;)

For me the part I don't like about the HE dragon is the base. I've got to do some work to it to make it look less High Elvish. My plan is to try and make it look like it's landing on a tree if I can.
That and the options are nice, but the kit is only a pair of wings and two legs short of being able to make two dragons instead of one. It's kind of a waste.
