[PLOG] booah invasion 2015
Hey all, I've decided to participate in the 1500 in 6 months challenge. I had a great time in 2014 putting together an empire and ogre army and played around with a little chaos and undead (still plenty of plastic unblighted by paint).
I wanted a monsters/cold ones list, I'm not sure it's a particularly valid army list but it is legal and works out just over the 1500points and splits into 250-300pt chunks and I like it visually.
The initial list
Black ark fleet master
Dread lord on cold one
Master on cold one bsb
20darkshards
20 corsairs
8 cold one Knights
Cold one chariot
Hydra
Medusa
This gives me plenty of other units to add in and work on that may take longer than a month as I hope to double the size of the list and maybe make a display board of some sort .

Looking forward to seeing them painted.
Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
I have decided to go for a Karond Kar paintscheme, even though my army composition is a bit more Clar Karond (definitely didn't misread and mess it up). I may mix and match more as I am going to be adding plenty of units throughout the year. Decided to go for the easiest option first and get some core quickly painted up. (I may change next month's planned unit of corsairs for another 10shards and 2 bolt throwers).
So this is 270 points (full command)
I'm still unsure about the bases. I am thinking of either wood like a ships deck or something with water effects, I will be doing the bases properly at a later time when I have experimented more and got in some supplies.

Evocative painting and colour scheme.

I really like the colours chosen. Nice job. I look forward to see them with finished bases

Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
Thanks for the kind comments, on further reading I have decided to further work around the karond Kar theme, they seem to compete for beast master status with clar karond. I want to def add some kit bashed harpies, the forgeworld Preyton model, flagellants slaves driven by beast/slave masters and am very open to all beast/tower of despair ideas I'm happy to create counts as models from across the elf range.
First 'wood elf' unit. Warhawk riders
I'm thinking of creating another three using the tzeentch Ray-like models. I want a beasts from the sea, land and air feel.

Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
I think I may have slightly jumped the gun with the initial invasion but didn't realise it was going to start in February. Nevermind I plan to make this army pretty big and the hobbying buzz is pretty strong at the moment. I managed to complete 500 points:
I was going for some form of decking like a pier/bridge section for the basing beginning to go up a rocky base where the bolt throwers would be placed.
I'm aiming for two units of Dark riders for February to be painted similar to the scheme above, but hope to get more done. Was thinking about the slave side of things as ideally I would like them to serve some purpose in the army rather than purely as unit fillers etc and have decided to give my flagellants shields and hand weapon, make a sisters of slaughter/beastmasters filler(slave masters) and then that could be a unit of Bleakswords. Just another option really and one that ties in with my theme without getting another 3 boxes of Warriors. (Plus I've had my 30 flagellants assembled for over a year and have never found motivation to paint them.

As noted by others, the speed and quality together are incredible - kudos! That shade of green is wonderful and I love the energy you give it with the vivid highlights. The wooden boards under the bolt throwers are lovely too. Fantastic army shaping up, all feeling superbly coordinated.

This. Your artillery and missile artillery looks very good ! Best part are the bases so far, very original and good looking. I am looking forward to see some conversions with the slaves. Great looking army so far !
Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
Superb work, I really love the colour scheme, the bases and basically everything and the speed and quality of your painting is just amazing. Do you use those slaves to help you paint?
Anyway, I can't wait to see the conversions and everything else really.

Fantastic work. Love your colour scheme, haven't seen too many like it before and the basing really sets the theme nicely.
Can't wait to see more.

Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
Far too kind with the comments, I love this hobby (gives me something to do while the wife watches her soaps on tv, and also my little boy is fascinated with the models and we play games of 'rolling' where he gets to roll 10 dice, killing my models on a 4,5 or 6 and I get to roll however many dice he decides is fair, usually 1 or 2).
Keeping a plog and following the excellent ones here helps keep me motivated and inspired. I have kept up a high pace, and have now finished my goal for February as well as a Master and Sorceress on Dark Steed. I actually found this surprisingly quick to paint, the batch approach seemed to work well, when I have tried it on more than 10 models at a time it seems to drag too much.
Not sure what to go for next. I have a reasonable legal army with 500pts plus of core so that gives me a bit of flexibility in terms of what to paint next.

Great looking horde of cavalry there.
I know what you mean about the kids, the number of sixes my daughter used to roll when I wasn't looking was staggering

Very, very stylish.
Love the way the erectness of the lord contrasts with the racing profile of the dark riders.
The rabbit steeds are definitely growing on me.

Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
I love the dual kits we get but hate all the wasted parts that get left on the sprue, and £40 for 160 points is a bit 'ouch.' I love to achieve at least the 10points a £1 RRP figure for the overall army and to help reach this target I decided on trying to make a passable Kharibdyss out of the spares from the War Hydra. Results below.
This also gave me a bit of time experimenting with different colour options (although they have come out a bit washed on the photo) and also try a water base for the first time. I am reasonably happy with the result and I think it is definitely a fieldable unit, I was going to add some handlers but as there is no stat for them I decided to leave it. (if opponent was conscience of height then I would obviously give benefit to them. I have a few ideas to go with the 'from the sea' aspect of my army that I am working on and hope to post up by the weekend, and am planning the 'from the air' part to.

Looks awesome, especially given it's made from spare parts, but what I like the most about it is how well it captures the "water monster" aspect. Really scary!

Re: [PLOG] booah invasion 2015
Very nicely done, good to see parts being salvaged liked that. One downside is that some people immediately view something like that as trying to exploit tlos rules, hope you don't run into that.
