Got my Gorebeast Chariot finished this morning:

Well, I say "finished". I actually still need to glue the chariot and beast to the base, glue the crew in position and add the chains running from the driver's right hand to the beast's shoulders...

There are more pics in my Photobucket gallery HERE.

Lovely work on the chariot, the skin on the beast looks very nicely done.
Will you be adding any more colour to the base in the way of grass, just to bring it to life a little more?

I'm not sure. The bases of my Chaos army are currently free of any sort of greenery, as it's supposed to be a desolate, blasted wasteland, but some tufts of unnatural-looking red or purple grass might look good. Has anyone ever tried dying static grass with ink, I wonder?

Woah - that looks awesome! Nice job.

I agree with ambo the base does not look finished - perhaps a dry brush with some dark brown.

Go to the beach if you have one close by and look for dried up seaweed - I have found some at my local that comes in very weird colors like pink and purple.

It's already drybrushed with Dark Reaper, Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey to match the rest of the army. Did you think it was just bare black texture paint? :?

Sorry SS - I have had a closer look in the top view and yes can see it now. From the front angels it looks quite black in the picture.

I wonder if a couple of clumps of red lichen would work on the base, as some sort of weird alien plant?

The first five of my kitbashed Shades are done:

Yes, I know I still need to tidy up the edges of the bases - I'm going to do that on all 15 once they're all painted.

I had to use the flash on my camera to photograph them, as it's really overcast today. That has made the static grass look weirdly shiny and the highlighting on the black areas look rather brighter than it really is. I think overall they are perhaps still too 'colourful' for Shades. For the other 10, I think I might do fewer pieces of armour in the red-lacquered-metal effect and more as black or brown leather. And maybe be more sparing with the purple, as I think the dark red works better.

I'm really pleased with how the red hair came out, though. It's GW Jokaero Orange (which, being a Base paint, covers fine over a black undercoat), drybrushed with my 20-year-old Bronzed Flesh (still miraculously good-as-new) and then washed with either Vallejo Skin Wash, GW Agrax Earthshade or GW Carroburg Crimson to give subtly different shades of red.

They look great - nice mix of bits and well painted.

Thanks, guys! Just another ten to do... although my Slaaneshi Sorcerer keeps whispering "Paint me first!" :P

The second batch of Shades are finished, including the unit leader (the one in the middle with two swords):

Here's all ten of the painted Shades together:

It doesn't look like I'm going to have time to paint the last five (or anything else) before I leave for France, but hey, ten is a perfectly adequate unit size for Shades!

I'm kinda sick of painting black now, anyway... :P

That red armour looks great!

The red armour is surprisingly easy to do! Basecoat with Boltgun Metal / Leadbelcher (I actually use the Vallejo equivalent, Gunmetal), edge highlight with Stormhost Silver, glob Spiritstone Red technical paint all over it, then paint Druchii Violet into the recesses. It matches perfectly the armour on the DE models I painted a decade ago, which was done with multiple glazes of red, purple and black inks (and used to take absolutely ages to get right).

I really wish GW would do a purple gemstone paint for my Slaanesh Chaos Warriors. I might try mixing together the red and blue ones, but given how fast the gemstone paints seem to start congealing into a gel when exposed to air, I suspect it might be more trouble than it's worth.

This is probably my last PLOG update until November.

My WIP bench right now:
Image

More female Marauders and a Lord of Slaanesh on Daemonic Mount (with a boatload of skulls and the requisite dead Witch Elf). I now have enough Marauders to field two units with hand weapon and shield (one of 20 and one of 30) and a 20-strong unit with flails, which ought to be plenty!

Loads of painting to do when I get back in November...
