Can an assassin take magic items AND khainite skills ?

The phrasing is "magic items or ..."

Is the "or" mutually exclusive?

RAW indicates that it is mutually exclusive. I seem to remember that was mainly in order to not mix poisons and magic items.

At this stage in the game I would go for it, with your group's permission. It isn't like the assassin is a power choice anyway.
