I'm one of those who prefers GWs Cold One's over the Gamezone Predator, but I have to say that the dread prince Ch'ill has found his ideal mount and most Napoleonic character with his new choice of steed

Great work, and always appreciate updates on your Druchii 8)

Haha, how come I need to put plog in the title?

I love jes Goodwin's cold ones, but unfortunately they just didn't stack up against the rest if the force. They're smaller than fenrisian wolves (which the dark riders are riding). Gamezone's predators also remind me of a time when a metal kit was really hard work to pull off, and these were certainly challenging to create.

jarvax wrote:I prefer GW's Cold ones over Gamezone's too but I must say your painting techniques are really REALLY good!

Are those warriors magnetized? Because the banner top must throw the standard bearer off-balance.

Thank you. The warriors are indeed magnetised (check out the first page).

He even looks a bit like Napoleon... :D

The end result is amazing. I love the colours you've used throughout, and your conversion skills are incredible. Very well done.

I must check this log more often. It seems you have a lot of fun in here. Your assassin reminds me of Bane. I hope that from now on, when he issues a challenge he starts with the words "So... you think the darkness is your ally?"

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Well, with the imminent release of the Druchii next month it is with a renewed sense of optimism that I look to my army. While looking toward the future I wanted to doff my hat to the past and paint one of my favourite golden oldies.

Korvhal Drahl Chancilor of the Ch'Ihll Estate

Image
Image

Khorval was was a pre imminent Magister in the Jade Serpent Cabal. Wealthy, affluent and powerful, Khorval's life unravelled with the Witch King's decree outlawing all male magic users. Fleeing for his life through the streets of Naggarond, Khorval found refuge in the Black House. Lokastias, Matriarch of Ch'Ihll had much use for her former rival's arcane knowldge and library, accepting him as a member of her house hold.

Khorval now eeks out an existence managing the Ch'Ihll estate, forbidden to use his talents on pain of death. He dares not even leave the Black Shard - House Hold of the Ch'Ihll's for fear of assassination.

A beautiful model from a golden age in Games Workshop history. This was one of the models that drew me to the Dark Elf range and endures as a exemplar of Druchii aesthetics.

October will be an exhausting and expensive month.

You need a bit more than shoulderpads to be armor. And the 'spear' is a magical staff with a point, I assume.

@ Noble Korhedron: That's just how it was sculpted mate. Have a look at the back catalogue - you may find some inspiration in the classics. Or perhaps not.

Oh, O.K. I'm only surprised they gave him armour is all. Considering I'm pretty sure that you couldn't wear armour and cast, even in 5th Ed. :?

Been lurking on these threads for a while, really lovely

Any chance you could share your purple recipe? I've been playing around with purples, but the muted darkness of your cloaks etc. is really what I'm going for

Keep up the excellent work!

I would also love to know where the model came from - its awesome.
Could maybe make a good alternative for the new DE Kraken model....

EDIT: Just found it at Forge World.

OI!! That wasn't supposed to be a put-down, I was wondering why they produced a miniature that was equipped with something I assume the wizard model it supposedly represented wasn't allowed to take... :?

the good ol´timer, when a male was as good magician as a female among DE..love this old school miniatures. In general the old miniatures could be worse technically or in terms of anatomy...but the concept was cooler than anything nowadays

Cheers guys!

@ Korhedron - No offense intended, I love the old miniatures but I don't think you'd enjoy them if you don't like this one. I think the Lion of Flanders meant his comment along the same lines.

Valodrius Heartsbane, The Scourge.

Image
Image

Valodrius was one of the Witch King's elite generals, favoured with a fleet of destroyers and the Black Ark Devourer. The Scourge reaved the lands of Cathay, Ind and Bretonnia sending wealth and slaves in abundance back to his dark master. A stoic, if some what unimaginative soul, Valodrius enjoyed the patronage of the Witch King and was endowed with wealth, power, status and privilege.

The General's fortune turned upon seeing the Gorgon Queen, Locastia, ruling Matriarch of the Black House of Ch'Ihll. Desire turned to lust, lust to venomous obsession within Valodrious' breast as he sought the favour of Locastia. At the height of his madness he turned the Devourer mid battle to follow after Locastia's pleasure barge (she had grown weary of the naval display and decided to retire the field), leaving the rest of his destroyers to be caught and run down by the inferior fleet of Norsemen raiders.

Valodrius was shorn of his military and societal standing, cast into the despairing wastes of Naggaroth. In Valodrius, Cynath found another broken thing to torment and abuse. Valodrius now acts as the Black Prince's personal bodyguard, in hopes that ensuring his protection will buy Valodrius a place within Locastia's entourage once again.

Oh, and there's the small matter of the kharybdys that I painted today...pics soon.

@Cynath ch'ill: No hard feelings. I was really only wondering why his equipment clashed with his rules. I actually think the old style crossbowmen are half decent, but I'm not sure about the warriors, executioners, black guard or witch elves. For the special/rare troops, I pretty much like the last metal models. FineCrap really sucks, I.M.O; it melts too easily and cannot be stripped easily either.

Well, that's pretty bad ass. The haughty expression really gives the whole thing a lot of character.

The snow is also particularly excellent. Do you have your snow recipe on your blog somewhere?

Also, did you modify the bottom "hem" of the chainmail?...I'm trying to recognize that bit.

Having put those together myself, I know their mould lines are absolute garbage. But you did a great job in green-stuffing them away. Looks good!

Question though - mine are so top-heavy I find they tip over way to easily. Have you found a way around that?

@ Noble Korhedron - fully agree with that.

@ Lion of FLanders - Actually I do!

http://loserstudio.blogspot.co.uk/2013/ ... -snow.html

The legs of the noble are taken straight from the Dark Elf plastic Cold one set. No conversion needed. The face was inspired by the Elector count with the eagle - he has an amazing face, one that I thought would mesh well with the Archon head.

@ Phierlihy - I have to make my own bases for them. Putting them on regular cavalry base just didn't cut it. The models were tipping over and were a nightmare to rank up. I used a cavalry base and the smaller halves of the square bases with the recessed tab. I filled all the gaps up with milliput and sanded them down. I think they look better this way but the unit of five now measures as much as 7 regular cavalry making gaming with them a challenge.

Yep, I looked at my COK sprues and realized that I didn't look closely and clipped the lamest of the three legs instead of using the cool one that you have used for my hero conversion that I'm in the middle of.
